What are the responsibilities and job description for the LVN, M/S | Full-Time | Days position at Medina Healthcare System?
POSITION PURPOSE:
Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill, injured, and disabled persons in the hospital. Must have the ability to comprehend and follow routine written or verbal instruction or directions. Adheres to Standard Precautions and policies and procedures. Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Obtains and records patients vital signs and weight.
- Assist physician with patient examination as needed.
- Review physicians orders, lab requests, or follow-up needs with patient.
- Documents services performed for billing purposes.
- Dresses wounds and gives enemas, douches, applies compresses, ice bags, and warming devices.
- Observes patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to charge RN.
- Administers specified medication, orally, subcutaneous, intramuscularly injection, or intravenous. Notes time and amount on patients charts as per policy and procedure.
- Assembles and uses such equipment as catheters, tracheotomy tubes, and oxygen supplies.
- Collects samples, such as urine, blood, and sputum, from patients for testing.
- Prepares or examines food trays for prescribed diet and feeds patients.
- Records food and fluid intake and output.
- Rotates among various clinical services of the hospital.
- Bathes, dresses, and assists patients in walking and turning.
- Cleans rooms, makes beds, and answers patients calls.
- Maintains supplies, including stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
- Provides the appropriate care for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent and the geriatric patient and demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
- Responsible for reporting drug interactions on the appropriate form.
- Responsible for reporting faulty equipment to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assess patient and report to RN supervisor or physician as appropriate.
- Update plan of care with RNs review and assistance.
- Any other job duty as allowed by licensure.
- Attends in-service training at the request of their Director, including hospital orientation and Annual Skills Fair.
- Will be preceptor to new hires as requested.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION:
- Current Texas License Vocational Nurse licensure. BLS required within 30 days of hire. NRP required within 90 days of hire. IV Certification course within 60 days of hire.
- One year of nursing experience in Med/Surg preferred.
- Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served as applicable.
