**Job Description: Pharmacist**
**Summary:**
The Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring the safe and accurate dispensing of medications, adhering to all state and federal pharmacy laws, and complying with company policies and procedures.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**
- Receive and interpret new prescription orders from prescribers or legally authorized individuals.
- Analyze clinical data and conduct final inspections of packaged drugs before dispensing.
- Supervise and oversee the activities of pharmacy interns and technicians, retaining professional and personal responsibility for delegated tasks.
- Review and verify controlled medications received from drug wholesalers.
- Complete all required documentation, forms, and reports accurately and in a timely manner as outlined in the company policy and procedure manual.
- Participate in the pharmacy’s continuous quality improvement program.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and secure prescription department.
- Obtain pharmacy licenses in multiple jurisdictions as required.
**Prescription Verification:**
- Review and evaluate all prescriptions to ensure accuracy in the patient's prescription record.
- Conduct Drug Utilization Reviews for all received prescriptions.
- Consult with patients or their agents regarding drug or medical information.
- Communicate with prescribers or their authorized agents as necessary.
- Transfer prescriptions to and from other pharmacies or institutions.
- Oversee and supervise the activities of pharmacy interns and technicians, including but not limited to loading automated dispensing machines, filling prescription orders, and confirming drug selection accuracy.
**Non-Sterile Lab Responsibilities:**
- Supervise and oversee the activities of pharmacy interns and technicians.
- Perform or confirm pharmaceutical calculations and ensure quality assurance for completed compounds.
- Manage controlled substance storage and log medications added or removed from storage.
- Create or amend compound formulations and verify new chemicals for accuracy, potency, and quality.
- Review and release sterility-tested compounds from quarantine.
**Qualifications:**
- **Education and Experience:**
- Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy.
- Active pharmacy license issued by the State of TN Board of Pharmacy.
- Minimum of two (2) years of retail or community pharmacy experience.
- **Language Skills:**
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- **Mathematical Skills:**
- Proficiency in calculating proportions, percentages, and volume, and applying basic algebra and geometry concepts.
- **Reasoning Ability:**
- Capability to apply common sense to carry out written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions effectively.
