Our business is growing significantly as the market demands reliable medical devices which look and feel more like consumer devices. As a result, we need a Software Project Manager who will ensure we deliver the best software on-time and with high quality for our CGM devices.

 The Medtronic Diabetes software development team writes the firmware, software, and tools which enable our pumps and glucose monitoring features of Medtronic’s products.  We are looking for a software project manager who can keep the projects and project teams organized and running on time. This is a true ‘software project’ role that requires you to understand the activities and deliverables of very technical people.

A Day in the Life

As a Software Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the software development process and working closely with the software development team and other functions.   Your responsibility is to ensure details are handled and uncertainties are managed appropriately. You are an owner, and you make it happen. You are responsible for managing risk and prevention, and how to quickly redirect and adapt when unexpected issues arise. You define and manage the detailed schedule and can always effectively communicate project status and progress.  You’re able to interpret and understand how the pieces come together to make a successful project. 

 Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Leads or leverages cross functional teams to evaluate, develop and manage projects for new product development and ongoing lifecycle management of products, processes and therapies.
  • Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management.
  • Manages the development and implementation process of a company’s products and services involving departmental or cross-functional teams focused on the delivery of new or existing products and processes.
  • Reviews status of projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports.
  • Monitors the project from initiation through delivery.
  • Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives.
  • Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, and clients.
  • Gathers requirements, works on requirements planning, requirements elicitation and requirements management to ensure they meet demands of project’s key stakeholders.
  • Communicates with stakeholders, obtains stakeholder engagement to ensure the end products or processes will solve the business problems.
  • Experienced with software development activities for embedded or mobile software projects.
  • Manage feature planning: Drive estimation, work breakdown, and resource allocation.
  • Create and maintain the schedule, drive intermediate deliverables, and ensure project commitments are met.
  • Define and track weekly work goals, managing engineer’s priorities to meet expectations.
  • Report work goals to management and identify impact on overall project schedule.
  • Understand process requirements for developing regulated medical devices and ensure development activities are compliant to our procedures.
  • Understand technical issues and escalate issues as needed and drive them to resolution.
  • Work collaboratively and professionally with outside organizations while dealing with organizational complexity and competing priorities.
  • Ability to communicate schedule changes and challenges both to management and to the development team.
  • Sets meaningful personal goals and helps others prioritize short-term activities around work team/functional priorities
  • Demonstrates accountability for one’s own decisions and can articulate rationale without being defensive.
  • Views mistakes as learning opportunity and supports an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Effectively solicits and shares complex information within and across work teams, stating own point of view even when difficult or unpopular
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 7 years of technical project management experience with B.A or B.S or 5 years of SW product development experience with M.A. or M.S.
  • PMP, Agile Methodologies, Microsoft Project, SmartSheets
Nice to Have
  • Familiar with Software Development Lifecycle and software development practices
  • Proficient in Embedded Software Development
  • Proficient in Technical Infrastructure Projects
  • Team interaction, communication, negotiation, and leadership skills
  • Experience working in a regulated industry
  • Experience applying Agile, Scrum or Iterative Development Methodologies
  • Experience in medical software development process such as IEC 62304 or other regulated software development

The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
