MegaKC, your local Kansas City General Contractor, has an opening for an Accounting Manager at our North Kansas City office! Our ideal Accounting Manager candidates will be self-starters, problem-solvers, and possess the ability to work well with all levels of personnel at the office and on a job site.
Position Overview:
- The Accounting Manager will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and manage the daily operations of the accounting department, including overseeing the bookkeeper and ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance. This role is critical for maintaining the financial health and operational efficiency of our company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting and Management
- Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards. Develop and maintain timely monthly financial statements and reports that comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Team Supervision and Development

- Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department including accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, payroll, and compliance.
- Supervise the bookkeeping staff and manage their performance and professional development.
- Budgeting and Forecasting
- Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, and report variances.
- Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
- Compliance and Control
- Ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.
- Monitor and confirm financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors.
- Process Improvement
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures.
- Streamline accounting functions and operations for better efficiency and accuracy.
- Tax and Regulatory Oversight
- Manage the preparation of regulatory reporting, including payroll taxes and year-end reporting related to the company ESOP and 401(k) plans.
- Stay up to date on industry regulations, changes in legislation, and best practices in accounting and finance.
- Work with external tax CPAs to facilitate year end filings and meeting all deadlines.
- Technology Management
- Act as primary contact for 3rd party IT company to resolve issues and equip employees of the company with necessary hardware.
- Manage software selection and implementation as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA certification strongly preferred (current or lapsed is acceptable); consideration given to candidates with compensating experience in construction accounting.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in a combination of public accounting and private industry, preferably in the construction sector.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and internal controls.
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
