The Mechanical Engineer 3 is responsible for the development of new Wheel & Brake equipment as defined by customer and government requirements as well as internal standards. This encompasses adherence to performance, cost and schedule requirements. The role also includes support for internal customers to ensure the business delivers its commitments to its contractual customers and operators.
* Required to perform and check/approve performance calculations and simulations to validate that the equipment will meet the required design requirements.
* When required, lead / be responsible for the overall Wheel & Brake project.
* Creation, review and approval of technical requirement documents in accordance with government standards, company standards and customer requirements.
* Responsible for all phases of Wheel & Brake new product development including requirements management, requirements validation, design manufacturing phase, qualification / certification testing and initial entry into service.
* Responsible to ensure all program targets are satisfied, including technical performance, non-recurring costs, recurring costs and project schedule. This includes coordination with other Engineering functions to support the equipment development.
* Responsible for assisting and tracking of key metrics through the development process including non-recurring costs, design to cost, design maintenance costs, reliability, weight, etc. for their assigned equipment.
* Responsible for coordinating with stress, thermal, vibration and reliability analysis engineers to ensure adequate margins against design requirements are met.
* Responsible for coordination with Supply Chain and/or Operations to ensure designs for manufacture while satisfying the Design to Cost targets.
* Work closely with assigned Test Engineers to assist in the development of all qualification test documents and test set-up drawings to ensure qualification test plans verify requirements according to the agreed method of compliance.
* Assist in the maintenance of equipment parts lists and drawing reviews to ensure drawings are released on time and are in conformance with design and drafting standards.
* Responsible for coordination of internal/external design reviews as required by the Product Line Expert, Subject Matter Expert and/or Chief Engineer and customer.
* Support and/or lead as applicable Root Cause & Corrective Action for qualification, design, and manufacturing issues.
* Required to actively support Continuous Improvement initiatives within the Wheel & Brake Center of Excellence.
* Required to approve Engineering drawings for component level parts, sub-assemblies, assemblies and interface control.
* Assist with Material Review Board dispositions as needed.
* Consult with and seek guidance from the Lead W&B Engineer, Product Line Expert, Subject Matter Expert and Chief Engineers as required.
Education:Bachelor Degree in Engineering
Years' Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
Skills:
* Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and working knowledge of applicable manufacturing processes
* Project management skills including cost and schedule tracking
* Experience with Design Failure Mode and Affects (DFMEA) and Risk Analysis
* Good communication skills - able to make presentations to customers and lead daily discussions with group of engineers, designers and technicians
* Aerospace experience preferred
* Aircraft Systems knowledge or experience preferred
* Continuous Improvement training preferred
