The Assistant Controller leads the business accounting activities generally within a business unit or a site, including the preparation, maintenance and reconciliation of ledger accounts and financial statements. Prepares records, analyzes and reports accounting transactions, while ensuring the integrity of records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with accepted accounting policies and principles.
Job Core Responsibilities
- Assists the business unit or site in maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
- Participates in the preparation and evaluation of budgets and other financial operating reports.
- Leads general business accounting activities, while training and coaching accounting staff.
- Maintains ownership of all aspects of the general ledger at a business unit or site.
- Reconciles inter-company activity enforcement of internal controls.
- Maintains fixed asset registers.
- Performs the preparation of Personal Property, Sales and Use, and Real Estate Tax filings.
- Prepares journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Ensures compliance with financial controls .
- Leads and directs work for team of employees as defined by business needs.
- Manages staff selection, performance, development and training processes to ensure team competencies and capabilities to reach the business goals and expectations.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary.
Job Specifications
Education: Post-Secondary Degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectation.
Years Experience: 7-10 years of relevant experience
Skills:
- Thorough understanding and experience of standard accounting concepts, practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of accounting, financial reporting and financial analysis acquired through related work experience in increasingly complex roles.
- Strong team development and management skills to enable the creation of a highly capable Finance and Accounting team.
- Strong analytical and independent problem solving skills to evaluate financial results, projections and data mine.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to explains complex information to others in straightforward situations; excellent interpersonal skills to drive task to completion.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and database management tools.

Salary : $69,600 - $88,100
