What are the responsibilities and job description for the Junior Buyer position at Mellott Company?
Job Scope:
Test and examine products and make purchases for the company by contacting vendors to discuss price, availability, and delivery schedule. Return unacceptable products to vendors to receive refund.
Essential Duties:
- Selects products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items
- Determines method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid
- Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority
- Confers with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule
- Estimates values according to knowledge of market price
- Prepares purchase orders or bid requests
- Maintains procurement records such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories
- Approves invoices for payment
- Expedites delivery of goods to users
- Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to take corrective action
Secondary Duties:
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
Education Requirements:
Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year or technical school
Experience Requirements:
Six months to one year of related experience
Physical Requirements:
Lifting up to 40 pounds - 5% of shift
