General Responsibilities
The Coordinator of Vocational Services is responsible for the total operation of vocational services under the direction of the Director (and Assistant Director) of Educational Services. He or she designs the program in the placement of students in supportive employment opportunities. The Coordinator of Vocational Services is responsible for curriculum design, development, and implementation.
Melmark serves children, adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorders, acquired brain injury, neurological diseases and disorders, comorbid mental health disorders and severe challenging behaviors. Populations served are intensely physically challenging. The Coordinator of Vocational Services position requires that staff be aware that students who are served may exhibit aggressive and/or self-injurious behavior. Students served may have had multiple treatment failures prior to this placement. The Coordinator of Vocational Services is expected to implement highly technical clinical and teaching programs that require the Coordinator of Vocational Services to be constantly alert, attentive and ready to respond to student’s needs.
Basic Qualifications
Education/Training: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or related services field preferred.
Certifications/Licensure: Equivalency in special skills and training in vocational rehabilitation with Pennsylvania Teaching certification. A valid US driver’s license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old. Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status.
Skill(s): Strong teaching skills with emphasis on students who are emotionally, behaviorally, physically and/or developmentally challenged. Experience with vocational skill development and community placement of individuals and with the principles and application of Applied Behavior Analysis. Strong interpersonal skills are an asset.
Experience: One (1) to two (2) years of experience in an educational setting, preferably with individuals who are emotionally, behaviorally, physically and/or developmentally challenged. Experience with vocational skill development in applied settings.
Interrelationships: Works cooperatively with all members of the multidisciplinary team (nursing services, vocational services, clinical services, residential staff, allied health services), families and other accrediting agencies/school districts.
