Status: PRN Hours: Varies as scheduledIn an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Nurse Technician is responsible for assisting registered nurses on inpatient units in providing quality patient care while maintaining communication within and between the nursing units. The Nurse Technician performs additional clinical duties that coincides with skills obtained as a nursing student with guidance from registered nurses. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times. Job Requirement: · Currently enrolled in last year of RN school or completion of Practical Nursing program and enrolled in RN school. · Basic Life Support (BLS) required – will obtain during hospital orientation.· Interpersonal skills, clerical, numerical and manual dexterity, color vision and near visual acuity.· Proper lifting techniques and body mechanics.
· Ability to read, write and do math as generally demonstrated by a high school diploma or GED. Job Functions: Performs hourly rounding. Performs clerical functions including maintaining chart order, answering telephones, and entering of written physician’s orders in Meditech. Coordinates patient flow and flow of information in collaboration with the charge nurse to maintain communication between departments. Assists with all aspects of patient care and non-patient care (i.e. cleanliness of unit, ordering of supplies) within their scope of practice as assigned by RN and documents in Meditech as appropriate. Assists with patient/family teaching as appropriate. Assists with the maintenance of supplies and equipment. Enters daily outpatient and observation room charges. Complies with all safety and infection control standards related to position. Utilizes appropriate interpersonal communication which facilitates productive relationships with other team members. Facilitates a positive and caring relationship with others by utilizing trust and mutual respect. Establishes a therapeutic relationship between patient, family and self, based on empathy and trust. Promotes a positive patient experience. Seeks help from appropriate resources as needed. Maintains current knowledge of and practices within the scope of hospital policies. Maintains open lines of communication between self and professional staff. Clarifies any unclear communication between members of the healthcare team. Uses proper channels of authority in communicating information. Assumes responsibility for own behavior. Obtains, places, discontinues and removes patient equipment and supplies. Assists patients with mobility by performing active and passive range of motion, lifting, turning, repositioning and ambulation. Observes, assists with patient teaching, and care of the patient under the direct supervision of the registered nurse. Contributes to the plan of care. Removal of and maintenance of JPs, SCDs, IVs, may also remove NGs and Foley catheters and perform simple dressing changes. Maintains compliance in RQI. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
