JOB SUMMARY

Provides general assistance to the accounting department through account analysis, monthly journal entries, preparation of various analytical reports, the budget process.   Specific responsibility for preparing month end financials, monthly reconciliations, assist in cost accounting and tax return preparations, and works yearly on audit process while upholding the mission and values established by Memorial Healthcare.  Strives for superior performance by consistently providing a product or service to leadership and staff that is recognized as ultimately contributing to the patient and family experience.  Recognizes and demonstrates understanding of patient and family centered care. 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Prepare month end financial packet and schedules.
  2. Input and upkeep of Productivity Schedule.
  3. Assist with Senior Accountants on special projects as needed.
  4. Assist Leadership in pulling of financials and detail from general ledger.
  5. Assists Reimbursement with document requests or schedules as requested.
  6. Assist in State Audits, Cost Reports, and Tax Returns.
  7. Produce financial analysis reports as requested.
  8. Assist with external audit schedules and data request.
  9. Maintains the highest level of confidentiality with all information obtained.
  10. Maintains quality in all tasks assigned.
  11. Completes all tasks accurately within specified deadlines.
  12. Must be able to work with a flexible work schedule when needed.
  13. Demonstrates knowledge of, and supports, hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards and the code of ethical behavior.
  14. Complete adhoc financial analysis and reports as needed.
  15.  Periodic reconciliation of key general ledger accounts at the request of the Director of Finance.
  16. Assist with process improvement, internal control, and risk mitigation for all health system entities.
  17. Provides assistance in accounting areas as needed. 
  18. Performs other related duties as required.
  19. Demonstrates knowledge of and supports hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards, and the code of ethical behavior.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  1. Bachelor’s degree with major in accounting required.

EXPERIENCE

  1. Five years of accounting experience is required.
  2. Five years of automated general ledger, spreadsheets and word processing applications is required.
  3. Hospital or other healthcare experience is preferred.

JOB KNOWLEDGE

  1. Working in an Accounting Department as an Accountant handling cash activity – posting and reconciling cash.
  2. Maintaining Fixed Asset System, Capital Inventory, Capital Budget Reporting, -  posting journal entries and reconciling capital expenditures.
  3. Understanding and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, IRS guidelines, healthcare finance issues, effective communication techniques both written and verbal, stress management and skills for dealing with complex issues.
  4. Knowledgeable and strong in oral and written communication.
  5. Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems in an effective and timely manner.
  6. Ability to articulate and demonstrate commitment to the philosophy, values, mission and vision of the organization.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES/MOTOR SKILLS

These physical requirements are not exhaustive and additional job related physical requirements may be added on an as needed basis.  Corrective devices may be used to meet physical requirements.

  1. Sedentary Work:  Frequently required to stand, kneel and crouch.  On a daily basis may be required to move about, sit, climb stairs and bend.  Is frequently required to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.  May be required to push/pull/carry items between 20-100 lbs.
  2. Vision:  Requires the ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye.  Near acuity:  Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.  Midrange Acuity:  Clarity of vision at distances of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet.
  3. Motor Coordination:  While performing the duties of the job, it is required to regularly perform functions that include using hand and finger movement, handle or feel objects, be able to use tools or equipment that requires reaching with hands and arms.  Must be able to travel independently throughout the hospital; access patients/families including areas confined by space and/or equipment.
  4. Speaking/Hearing:  Ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening.

ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL ABILITIES

  1. Proficiency using modern office, computer and telephone equipment as used by Memorial Healthcare.
  2. Advanced proficiency with excel.
  3. Ability to access, create, send and retrieve data from all systems.
  4. Ability to operate a ten key calculator.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES

  1. Ability to adapt and maintain focus in fast paced, quickly changing or stressful situations.
  2. Ability to read and interpret a variety of documents including, but not limited to policies, operating instructions, white papers, regulations, rules and laws.
  3. Ability to effectively problem solve.
  4. Ability to develop and communicate effective proposals.
  5. Ability to comprehend basic statistics and financial documents for purposes of preparing and analyzing departmental budgets.

  1. Ability to read, survey information, and other documentation received in the course of performing duties.
  2. Ability to communicate with employees and to answer and process questions.
  3. Ability to maintain self-control.
