The Opportunity
The Data Engineer will help prepare and organize data for vital business systems and processes in the Memphis Grizzlies organization. This individual should be a detail-oriented problem-solver who will contribute to an enterprise culture of data literacy and empowerment. The role reports to the Director, Business Strategy & Analytics, and will work alongside a team of analysts embedded into specific business departments.
The ideal Data Engineer will create and maintain automated data solutions at the highest quality and accuracy. They will use Python, SQL and related tools to bring data into the right locations for reporting, marketing automation, and sales activities. They will work cross-functionally to enhance the data-related work throughout the organization, positively impacting departments such as Ticket Sales & Service, Marketing, Partnership Marketing, Brand Marketing, Finance, Arena Operations, and more.
A large portion of the job’s day-to-day responsibilities will include developing ETL/ELT process to support actionable business operations. They will be the lead technical and data expert within the Business Strategy & Analytics team, but also lean closely on existing processes within the Information Technology and Marketing Technology groups.
In This Role You Will
- Partner closely with the Director, Business Strategy & Analytics on data-related priorities and an understanding of the organization’s data warehouse strategies;
- Design modeled datasets for improved reporting and advanced predictive purposes;
- Utilize strong analytical skills to move data to and from various sources;
- Support operational data initiatives within ticketing system (Ticketmaster), CRM system (Salesforce), email marketing provider (Salesforce Marketing Cloud), and more;
- Showcase commitment to testing, stability, and reliability in building high-quality pipelines and processes;
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to better understand business requirements and create technical action plans to meet those needs;
- Champion data governance efforts and collaborate closely with technical stakeholders on internal best practices;
- Support efforts toward new technology research and provide proactive, long-term technology focus within the organization;
- Other duties as assigned.
The Experience You Will Bring
- Bachelor's degree in data engineering, computer science, statistics or related area of study.
- Two (2) years’ related analytics, data engineering, and business intelligence experience.
- Advanced SQL skills with a strong understanding of database best practices.
- Significant experience in API data extraction, programming languages (Python, C#, etc.), and modern ETL/ELT process.
- Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Snowflake, Azure, etc.)
- Strong communication skills with leadership, analysts, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Highly motivated, goal-oriented worker who can thrive in a fast-paced organization.
- Working knowledge of the professional sports and entertainment industry.
Nice to Have:
- 3-4 years of related analytics, data engineering, and business intelligence experience.
- Any full-time, internship or project-based experience in the professional sports & entertainment industry.
- Working knowledge of major CRM providers (such as Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics), data visualization platforms (such as Tableau, Microsoft Power BI), and sports ticketing data systems (such as Ticketmaster, SeatGeek, AXS).
