The Opportunity
The Memphis Grizzlies Human Resources Department is growing and we’re looking for a HRBP to join our amazing team of HR professionals. The Human Resources Business Partner is an essential part of Human Resources Team providing strategic HR partnership in all things people & culture to their assigned departments, partnering throughout the organization from senior leadership to individual contributors. This role is essential in working across the business to set people strategies and work with leaders and employees to ensure a Great Place to Work culture.
To excel in this role, the HRBP must possess excellent emotional intelligence skills, establish strong relationships with both internal and external customers, and be collaborative, flexible, and diplomatic.
In This Role You Will
Talent Management & Engagement
- Ensure that all training and development programs, as well as employee activities, are strategically aligned with the organization’s objectives. Collaborates with department leaders to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of training materials, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other training tools, providing guidance and coaching to support their implementation and utilization within their respective departments.
- Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to department leadership (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
- Communicates key messages to business lines and ensures compliance and follow-up with ongoing HR initiatives (e.g., annual enrollment, annual reviews, engagement surveys, compliance training, etc.).
- Partner with department leaders to develop and direct HR strategies, programs and initiatives that support the overall direction and goals of the business.
- Manage the full employee life cycle including hiring, onboarding, development, performance management and offboarding for designated department(s).
- Lead HR projects/initiatives (employee engagement, league initiatives, etc.) as determined by VP, People and Culture
- Conducts regular check-ins with respective department heads and individual contributors and provides HR guidance when appropriate.
- Think independently, investigate and resolve employee relations issues, partnering with the VP, People and Culture, when necessary.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Workers Compensation Administration
- Process workers compensation claims with insurance carriers and medical providers.
- Initiate and update claims data on insurance carrier’s online system
- Coordinate with medical staff and claims adjusters through each claim until closure.
- Respond to carrier requests to facilitate claims reviews (documentation, status updates, etc.)
HRIS & Total Rewards
- In partnership with the VP, People & Culture develop and execute total rewards strategies including compensation and benefits (health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, voluntary benefits and 401(k) plans). Assist with the design, implementation, and administration of compensation and incentive programs, ensuring market competitiveness and alignment with business objectives.
- Oversee market analysis to stay abreast of industry trends, ensuring our total rewards offerings remain competitive.
- Build out dashboards to provide visibility on pay parity and progression metrics to support our efforts for a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace.
- Oversee the processing and monthly billing and preparation of payment for all Health and Welfare benefit plans.
- Develop communication tools to enhance the understanding of the company’s benefits package.
The Experience You Will Bring
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Human Resources or related major
- 7 years of experience in human resources, including a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a strategic HR Business Partner model.
- Three to five years of experience managing compensation, benefits and HRIS. Fluency with UKG and ICIMS strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of all federal and state regulations affecting employee benefit programs, including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, Section 125, ACA, Social Security and DOL requirements.
- Advanced excel skills with the ability to perform detailed calculations, modeling, and analysis using data in building total rewards plans reconciled with budgets and forecasts.
- Broad understanding of all HR disciplines including organizational development, talent planning, employee relations, talent acquisition, learning & development, benefits administration, workers compensation, compensation, and federal and state employment laws.
- Experience in building, aligning, and implementing programs and processes to business strategy.
- Proficient user of MS Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Slack and HRIS systems

- Proven ability to effectively interact with all organizational levels and build strong relationships built on trust.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal; must be an articulate and persuasive communicator.
- Excellent consulting, coaching, change management and conflict management skills.
- Confidence in interacting with and experience working as a trusted advisor to senior management.
- Strong business acumen with a keen aptitude to quickly assimilate new information.
- Ability to function independently, with minimal supervision, and thrive within a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to quickly interpret data, identify trends and recommend multiple solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities with grace and efficiency.
- Ability to diagnose and successfully develop and implement organizational development strategies at the business area/functional level in partnership with the Sr. Director, Performance and Organizational Development
- Strategic problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand, interpret and act on information promptly and effectively.
- Open and receptive to ongoing feedback aimed at improving performance.
Nice to Have:
- SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential
- Master’s degree from a four-year college or university in Human Resources or related major
- Knowledge of sports and entertainment, specifically NBA basketball.
