Overview

Humboldt Sawmill Company, LLC (HSC) is seeking a NEW GRAD for our Entry Level Industrial/Manufacturing Engineer position based in Scotia, CA! This is an excellent opportunity for a new graduate with their degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering seeking a position within a growing organization. 

 

The base salary for this position is $65,000.00 to $80,000.00.  Your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic locations, skills, education and/or experience.  Please keep in mind that that the range published is the full base salary. We also offer a generous benefits package.

 

The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Collectively providing 950 employees and their families with excellent wages and benefits in communities throughout the Western USA. Additionally, the Mendocino Companies own and operate a 25-megaWatt biomass cogeneration power plant and wood pellet plant.

 

Working under the direction of Director, Operations this position will provide process improvements, set work standards, evaluate operational costs, validate capital expenditures, document operational procedures, determine most economical process flows and perform project management functions and provide reporting documents.

  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend changes or improvements in operational process, procedures, and equipment and provide analysis to support these changes.
  • Performs process validation and maintains necessary documentation.
  • Assist users in understanding and establishing baseline performance and work standards.
  • Develop budget and capital expenditure plans for operational improvements.
  • Manage and/or participate in project teams to achieve defined objective and deliverables using standardized Company processes.
  • Develop cost comparisons of alternate processes, parts, tooling, equipment, or systems within Operations.
  • Performing cost studies, economic comparisons, and justification analysis.
  • Lower the cost of production by eliminating wastes in both manpower and materials.
  • Research, develop and implement cost reduction program.
  • Direct and assist in the preparation of various reports and presentation for field and executive management.
  • Develop, maintain, and distribute reports as required.
  • Work with regulatory and consulting groups to ensure we are staying in compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering required
  • No experience needed
  • Six Sigma knowledge is a plus.
  • Ability to design, develop, implement, and improve integrated systems that included people, materials, information, equipment, and cost.
  • Capable of performing root cause analysis to determine cause and solutions to various technical manufacturing issues.
  • Product costing knowledge and ability to identify opportunities for cost reduction.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have an intermediate skill level with Microsoft Project, Database software/Access, Excel, and Word software.
  • This position requires and intermediate to advanced skill level with CAD software or any software dealing with plant layouts and process flow mapping.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock; explosives; and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • This position requires wearing eye protection, hearing protection, safety shoes, leather or rubber gloves, chemical goggles, sleeve protection, dust mask, chaps, and hard hat.
