As a member of the ACT team, the ACT Mental Health Certified Peer Specialist shares responsibility for providing the rehabilitation services and supports necessary to assist each person as they work toward their goal of recovery.
This position promotes individualized recovery, self-advocacy, and self-direction; and promotes a culture where the persons points of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into treatment.
The ACT Mental Health Certified Peer Specialist provides strengths-based education and skill-building services in a variety of areas, including participating in community resources, building relationships, and encouraging community-based activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities :
Working as a team, in concert with each person to develop an individualized plan of services and supports (Individual Treatment Plan) that will enable each person to live as independently in the community as possible.
Services and supports might include activities such as assisting with skill development in the following areas : budgeting, housing, transportation, hygiene appointments, relationship building, symptom management, medication administration and obtaining or maintaining benefits.
Maintains awareness of each persons medication adherence plan and provides services to assist client in carrying out the plan;
evaluates adequacy of plan, reports problems and recommends modifications as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience :
Must be at least 21 years of age; have a primary diagnosis of mental illness; be a current or former consumer of mental health services;
and have successfully completed the DHS-approved Certified Peer Specialist training and certification exam.
