Job Description: Location: Santa Fe, NM Compensation: This is an exempt position. Compensation will vary depending on experience. The Production Designer is part of the Creative Team, responsible for coordinating between Creative and Fabrication departments, partnering with Creative Directors and Art Directors to ensure the Creative Vision is being met across all Exhibit and Fabrication teams including Art, Fab and Tech. They are responsible for overseeing the design and execution efforts of all exhibit related elements. The Production Designer is innovative and creative, is an organized thinker who is able to ideate multiple technical and creative approaches and solutions to meet design criteria, such as, guest experience, capacity, spacing, etc., while adhering to the local building codes. Directed by the Creative Director and Creative Producer, the Production Designer ensures that the project’s creative vision and design is accurately integrated and documented in models, drawing packages, and executed through production. Coordinates with all project personnel, departments, and disciplines through the ideation, concept and fabrication phases. Utilizes various drafting techniques and tools to create dimensional and scale drawings/models detailing construction methods and the integration of various exhibition elements with each other and the facility. Responsible for designing construct-able projects to stay on track with creative intent, schedule, and stay within budget requirements. Holds space for, and supports Artists contribution to projects. They must be steadfast and strategic as they work within Meow Wolf’s highly ambitious, collaborative model. How you will do it… Participate in early project Design phases to advise on Production methodology Lead major projects as a Production Design Lead Creative thinker responsible for developing and executing the Creative vision through the production of integrated and constructible design drawings. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and functional practicality of design through all phases of the project. Responsible for partnering with Technical. Art And Fabrication leads to insure proper materiality, code compliance and production methodologies meet the Creative intent and support the Creative Vision Ensures that projects meet or exceed creative design intent and achieve the desired guest experience on budget and on schedule. Key participant in budgeting, scheduling, technical integration. Organizes and manages external as well as internal production design resources. With the Project Designer, identifies talent, resources, and requirements necessary to complete the project. Organizes and initiates design reviews during the fabrication process. Creatively oversees Fab Teams, consultants, and outside vendors to maintain the integrity of the design throughout all phases of the project. Establishes, maintains, and builds productive and positive team relationships with open communication, trust and teamwork; between all departments, partners, disciplines, and project personnel. Inspires, communicates and maintains the project intent among all team-members and teams. Acts as a project liaison for appropriate internal and external partners, licensors, and developers related to creative fabrication. Reports to the Managing Director of Creative Services. To be successful in this role… Must have immersive art/theater, scenic design, and/or architecture experience/training. Must be a creative problem solver with strong technical ability in various design techniques/tools such as show set design and drafting, 3D modeling, architectural design. Must have great communication/collaboration skills and ability to work and thrive in a team environment. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Theatre, Fine Arts or a related field required. Technical school: Scenic Fabrication or design related field preferred. 10 years in creative enterprises management, immersive art and theater entertainment production with installation. Must have successfully designed, developed and installed attraction exhibits, theatrical productions, large scale events, or art exhibits. Work environment & physical demands… This position is based in Santa Fe, NM, and a company laptop will be provided. This is a full-time position averaging 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm MT or 10 am to 6 pm MT – occasionally requiring flexibility to work during evenings or weekends based on business needs, as well as travel to off-site locations.
