Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner Emergency Medicine

Fond du Lac, WI Full Time
POSTED ON 1/19/2024
MEP Health is Southern Wisconsin's premier board-certified independent emergency medicine group since 1983 and we are searching for an advanced practitioner (AP) to be part of an amazing team of over 60 physicians and 40 APs. Practicing at a variety of emergency departments and urgent care settings in Wisconsin, we show up to work every day because we are passionate about providing outstanding care to the patients of our community. Our pursuit of excellence in patient care helps fuel our passion for acute care medicine.
We are just as passionate about taking care of our MEP family and making MEP a place where providers choose to be long term employees. Our leadership is made up of clinicians who understand what’s happening on shift because they are there beside you. That relationship is reflected in locally made decisions that are provider and patient centric.

As a nurse practitioner or physician assistant with MEP, you will work in collaboration with your attending physician(s) to provide acute care to patients. We are looking for an AP to:
  • Evaluate, examine, diagnose, and treat to the level of your education, training, and experience both pediatric and adult patients while being supported by your attending physician either in person or via the phone (at our stand-alone urgent care site).
  • Perform common procedures such as splinting, joint reduction, laceration/wound repair, nerve blocks, incision and drainage of abscesses, and foreign body removal. Continue to learn, gain, and utilize more advanced skills throughout your time with MEP.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic imaging studies.
  • Order and prescribe medications appropriate for patient care during their stay in the department and at time of discharge, active DEA required.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation. You will utilize electronic medical records (EPIC and Cerner) with access to dictation software (Dragon, MModal).
  • Work closely with our specialty and Hospitalist colleagues to refer patients for consultation and arrange admission when warranted.
  • Actively engage with MEP by participating in departmental, corporate, and hospital meetings, committees, and activities.
  • Work primarily at SSM St Agnes in Fond du Lac. Can work at our other locations if interested, locations include: SSM St Mary’s Madison, SSM St Mary’s Janesville, SSM St. Clare Baraboo, Lake Delton Urgent Care, and Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital.
Work life balance is important to us at MEP. Our scheduler is an AP who understands the unique needs of emergency medicine providers. We offer a great vacation policy that allows our APs to get the down time they need. We work together as a team to provide seamless coverage to our sites in a sustainable manner. As an AP with MEP you will participate in our AP sick call program and assigned shifts will include day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts in a fair and consistent process. Shifts times and hours vary to provide appropriate coverage to each department but range from 8-12 hours in length.
MEP wants to be the AP employer of choice and offers great employment packages including:
  • Competitive wages
  • Bonus program
  • Vacation and paid time off
  • Outstanding retirement contributions, starting day one for eligible employees
  • Full health and dental insurance options
  • Short term and long-term disability insurance coverage
  • Malpractice coverage
  • CME and professional expenses funds
  • Longevity incentives
  • Various social and wellness activities
MEP is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We encourage applications from candidates who are underrepresented in our specialty. We will give all qualified applicants consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
REQUIREMENTS
  • EDUCATION: Master’s or Doctorate’s degree from accredited nursing program, or Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited PA program.
  • EXPERIENCE: Previous experience working as an NP or PA in an Emergency Department or similar setting strongly preferred. Ability to make responsible decisions within the scope of license.
  • LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Active APRN or PA licensure in the State of Wisconsin. Active board certification as an NP in area of clinical practice or active PA board certification. Up to date ATLS, ACLS and BLS. Active DEA license or ability to apply for such prior to or upon hire.
