What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Intern, eDrive HV Systems position at Mercedes-Benz R&D North America?
As an Engineering Intern, you will play a crucial role in the development of Mercedes-Benz’s e-Drive systems. You will divide your time between conducting hands-on experiments and tests in our power electronics lab, collaborating closely with lead engineers to analyze data and draw insights. Additionally, you will leverage collaborative tools to ensure the project remains up-to-date and comprehensive, coordinating with team members to track progress and complete tasks efficiently. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into the full product development cycle of Mercedes-Benz Electirifed Vehicles, and understand the diverse roles and responsibilities of stakeholders.
This full-time onsite internship, based in Farmington Hills, MI. The internship is schedule to run from around August 1st to December 20th, 2024, requiring 40 hours per week. Ideal candidates are current Masters or PhD students with a robust understanding of power electronics systems and hands-on experience in simulation methodologies.
\n- Develop functional simulation models of power electronic components, including inverters, motors, gate drivers, DCDC converters, etc. Construct a comprehensive EV powertrain simulation model to characterize semiconductor impact on performance.
- Conduct competitor analysis (benchmarking) of power electronics solutions and create an interactive, visual database capturing key performance metrics.
- Utilize data from project management tools such as JIRA and Confluence to build visual dashboards using PowerBI, Tableau, etc., tracking the status of various project-related activities.
- Maintain regular and proactive communication with stakeholders to provide updates on project status, delays, risks, and challenges.
- Currently pursuing a Masters or PhD degree in electrical, electronics, and/or computer engineering.
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- 3 years of experience required.
- Working experience in power electronics, Simulation experience and collobrative workspace confluence and Jira
- Strong knowledge about power electronic at systems level.
- Deep understanding of electric vehicle design and architecture.
- Proficiency with the office tools such as MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
- Project Management Skills, including effective communication and time management.
- Experience in performing simulations using tools such as LTSpice, SIMBA, MATLAB/Simulink, and Python.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment such as shared Cloud Drives, Confluence, Jira, Microsoft Teams.
- Highly motivated to solve real world engineering problems.
- Pursuing Masters’ degree in electrical, electronics, and/or computer engineering with commulative GPA of 3.5 or more.

The current hourly rate for this position is as follows and may be modified in the future: $24 (Masters Students) / $26 (PhD Students)
