The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) leads the finance and accounting business function within Merchants Capital, determining strategy, directing business processes, and overseeing the achievement of established financial and operational goals. This individual plays a critical role in determining organizational strategic objectives to ensure overall success of the business.
After one year as CFO, you will know you were successful if you…
- Directly oversee and lead the multifamily accounting group, indirectly reporting to the corporate CFO and reporting directly to the CEO.
- Operate as the primary point of contact with other business units and corporate functions.
- Partner with various lending and/or tax credit equity business lines to produce financial projections, model business opportunities, and analyze profitability.
- Collaborate with capital markets group to execute private placement of bonds, to partner with institutional investors on bond placement in the secondary market, and to expand workforce housing options.
- Collaborate with Merchants Bank finance and accounting functions to seamlessly coordinate consolidated financial planning and reporting.
- Collaborate with key internal stakeholders and technology vendors to enhance internal platforms and improve process efficiency.
- Prepare the annual budget and ensure the accuracy of the monthly financial reporting process.
- Liaison with outside auditors, agency representatives, and department managers regarding financial reporting.
Requirements
What we are looking for…
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting with CPA and/or MBA. (Required)
- A minimum of 10-plus years working in a financial leadership capacity in a financial institution, with proven success in high-level management and leadership roles. (Required)
- Must demonstrate advanced experience in financial operation and execution of: Commercial real estate capital markets transactions and securitizations; Tax credit equity syndications; Private placement of tax-exempt and taxable bonds; Multifamily agency lending.
- Expertise in market forces, business strategy development, industry regulations, and related operations with demonstrated success in balancing operational efficiency and regulatory expectations.
- Experience managing corporate matters and communicating relevant information with executive groups for use with boards of directors and shareholders.
- Strong grasp on managerial best practices and risk management and mitigation.
- Must demonstrate and maintain a solid working knowledge of relevant statutes, rules, and regulations.
