The Accounting Manager will become part of a dedicated General Accounting management team focusing on month end close, accounts payable function, statutory financial statements, audited combined financial statements, operating budget preparation and the leadership and mentoring of General Accounting direct reports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform assigned month-end close responsibilities to include journal entries, preparation of reports and performing analytics.
- Assist with the preparation of annual and quarterly statutory statements and supplements for submission to regulators in accordance with published guidelines.
- Prepare annual audited combined financial statements with detailed work papers for support during the external audit.
- Assist with maintaining the operating budget planning system and create reports for analysis by Sr. Management. Work with cost center managers to answer questions and resolve issues regarding the operating budgets.
- Responsible for all aspects of the accounts payable function.
- Administer the non-employee compensation system, including data collection and furnishing 1099s to payees and transmitting to the IRS.
- Supervise all staff reporting to this position.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Qualified candidates will have a 4 year degree in accounting, finance or economics.
- CPA preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an accounting or finance environment.
- Solid understanding of Accounting Principles, internal controls, general ledger transactions, and account reconciliations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel and Word.
- Prior experience with statutory accounting principles preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience is required.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Merchants Insurance Group Pay information:
Merchants Insurance Group offers a competitive pay scale. The actual compensation will be determined based upon experience and other factors permitted by law. The pay range for this position is $78,574 – 104,379.
