Have what it takes? Join us. Position Summary: Mercury Marine is searching for a systems engineer to be a part of the Drive and Propulsion Systems team. Drives and Propulsion Systems is primarily responsible for vessel dynamics including top speed, acceleration (hole shot), maneuverability and handling, as well as drive system efficiency including total vessel fuel economy and/or range as functions of hydrodynamic efficiency. The team works directly with the rest of Product Development and Engineering to design, analyze, simulate, and validate the subsystems affecting the vessel dynamics and use that knowledge base aide in development of component designs and controls strategies. Drives and Propulsion Systems plays a critical role in development of propellers, lower drive units, midsections, the mechanical components of steering systems, and in setting and validating targets for complete propulsion systems. Roles and Responsibilities: Develop and execute test plans to ensure project designs will meet vessel dynamics targets Acquire and analyze experimental measurements in both laboratory and field environments Apply knowledge of digital signal processing techniques as they apply to vessel dynamics Collaborate with other engineers and technicians to develop and execute physical tests Identify and propose corrective action for issues identified during product development Support cross-functional teams to ensure all test requirements and timelines are met Provide feedback and guidance to component engineers to guide designs Write technical reports to document results Candidates with experience in simulating vehicle dynamics in marine, automotive, or aerospace applications in Simulink or similar software as well as testing experience is preferred but not required Desired Experience and Skills: B.S. in Engineering required, with a preference to Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Aerospace Engineering, Control Systems Engineering or similar Experience with data acquisition hardware & analysis software Experience working with a variety of transducer types, including accelerometers, strain gages, IMUs, and more Experience with developing complex vessel/vehicle simulations especially experience in 6DOF simulations common in marine, aerospace and automotive industries preferred but not required Excellent problem definition and solving techniques Strong oral and written communication skills Strong teamwork skills and ability to work among cross-functional teams Working knowledge of engines and marine propulsion systems Familiarity with the use and operation of marine vessels Passion for boating a strong preference We recognize that people come with a wealth of experience and talent beyond just the technical requirements of a job.
