What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer position at Mercury Plastics?
Purpose and Scope
The Buyer is to become proficient in the area of the buying activities for all three manufacturing locations.
Responsibilities: The Buyer’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, learning the process to:
- Verifies which parts, materials, supplies, and equipment are needed to ensure that an adequate supply is on hand
- Approve requisitions for the purchase of raw materials and supplies, MRO Items and approve invoices for payment of these materials and services within scope of authority.
- Maintain accurate records of pricing, supplier information and purchases.
- Represents Mercury Plastics in Masco’s Master Contract negotiations. Reviews bids and contracts to ensure budgetary limitations and scope.
- Monthly inventory reporting.
- Assist with automation of supply chain tools for more efficient reporting
The successful candidate will need to have:
- Track and analyze purchasing activities and data. Prepare reports as needed and apply the results to purchasing decisions.
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Shown strong analytic abilities with the ability to conduct research and analysis to make insights into product decisions
- Demonstrated proficiency with common Microsoft Office tools: Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Experience working with ERP business software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, including the ability to present information to executive staff, and key industry partners and professionals. It is critical that this individual knows how to lead through ambiguity, balance multiple tasks, and prioritize appropriately. Working in a flexible environment and leading cross-functional teams is a critical part of this role. This person needs to be able to tackle problems with a balance of creativity and fiscal responsibility.
Job Requirements:
- Experience as a buyer in a purchasing department
- ERP business software systems such as Vizio.
- The Buyer will establish measurement systems, report and educate users in maintaining supply systems to ensure accuracy in inventory levels.
- 2-4 years of college business education, or equivalent work experience
ISO Procedures, Work Instructions and Quality Policy.
Desired Certifications:
- Certification from the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM) such as CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) or CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional).
- Certification from the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) such as CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) or CPSD (Certified Professional in Supplier Diversity).
