Mercy Haven has an opening for a part time grant writer position. This position works across the organization to achieve annual fundraising goals and is essential to the comprehensive Development Team effort. A deep understanding of Mercy Haven's mission, services, and program outcomes will be essential to succeed in this role.
Responsibilities:
- With input from the Development Director, identify and solicit institutional donors; manage the grants portfolio and submissions.
- Write, edit, and proofread foundation proposals, and maintain well-organized submission calendar
- Assist with editing and preparation of government proposals, reports, forms and other documents; gather support materials and prepare documents for submission, including online submission platforms.
- Work with program and finance staff on all reports and proposals due, including setting deadlines, obtaining necessary materials, and managing the document process as needed. Coordinate with departmental staff, ensuring that donor documents meet the highest standards of writing and that the content reflects Mercy Haven's funding priorities.
- Focus on submitting grants for Mercy Haven's unfunded programs (Mercy Advocacy & Resident Education Programs, Pleasant Gardens, and General Operating fund).
- Attend quarterly Outcomes meetings, funder informational meetings/webinars and other agency meetings when necessary.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with current and prospective funders.
- Communicate with funders and document communications throughout the grant process.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum 3 years of demonstrated successful corporate and/or foundation fundraising experience evidenced by successful grant submissions, preferably with a background in the field of homelessness, mental or behavioral health (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Some government proposal writing experience preferred.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Strong project/time management skills and attention to detail
- Knowledge of government grants
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, work independently and across agency departments
- Computer skills proficiency with MS Office Suite, Internet, and other programs as needed
- Ability to represent Mercy Haven professionally to the public
- Physical Requirements: read/write reports, repetitive wrist/finger movement, may lift 10-15 pounds on occasion
This position will be approximately 15 hours per week. Tuesday and Wednesday preferred, but flexible.
Once introductory period is completed, hybrid for in-person/remote work opportunity available.
