This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing diagnostic ultrasounds and reporting the findings and diagnosis to the radiologist along with providing quality patient care to our patients.
Job Duties
-
Ensures that all accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families and co-workers at hand offs and other times as needed. Takes all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome.

Operates diagnostic ultrasounds and peripheral vascular equipment producing diagnostic ultrasound and PV procedures.

Produces high quality sonograms on a consistent basis following protocol

Identifies each patient and review the patients radiology worksheet EMR for medical information that will assist the sonographer in performing an accurate exam

Prepares images and worksheets on the PACS correctly prior to radiologist interpretation

Ensures infection control measures are completed prior to using a intracavity probe.

Understands requirements for student supervision as outlined in the Student Supervision policy for both the University of Iowa and the Mercy/St. Luke's school of Radiologic Technology

Maintains current knowledge of new ultrasound and vascular procedures.

Ensures that department is clean and all ancillary equipment is running properly.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology with the ability to recognize subtle differences between healthy and pathological areas.

Take anatomical images and recognizes normal vs. abnormal anatomy and exhibits a knowledge of pathological processes.
Professional Experience
-
1 year experience in performing ultrasound procedures preferred.
Education
-
Completion of an accredited ultrasound educational program required.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
-
Requires American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification within the first 6 months of employment

American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography vascular certification preferred

Current certification in Basic Life Support, in accordance with the American Heart Association required

Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.
