Overview:
Provides direct and indirect patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse consistent with the established guidelines of practice, the Goals of Mercy Health System, the Philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy, the Code of Professional and Business Ethics and the Employee Code of Conduct. Performs clerical and billing functions for the department, including answering the phone, transmitting messages to the appropriate individual, processing new and changed orders and acting as a liaison between other departments. Acts as a receptionist for the Nursing Unit. Enters, updates, and retrieves information from the hospital computer system(s). The billing function will be performed on a daily basis. Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous nurse assistant or other patient contract experience helpful. Strong familiarity with medical documentation process and with medical terminology.
- Education: High school diploma, basic computer skills.
- Certifications: Must have a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider card of complete a course within their probationary period.
- Other: Ability to multi-task in an occasionally tense/pressured setting. Exceptional communication skills in face-to-face encounters with other health professionals and the public. Able to function effectively with newborns and new parents.
