Description:

Under limited supervision, provides professional medical services to patients and supervision of the delivery of medical services by the assigned staff of the facility. Develops operational management skills related to the practice and assists in the day-to-day supervision and transitional operation of the medical practice. Adheres to the principles of Service Excellence Guiding Behaviors and the philosophy and mission of Mercy in all aspects of job performance.

What You Will Do

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with Mercy standards.
  • Provides competent patient care to the patient population by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments.
  • Directs and supervises the medical duties and activities of professional and support personnel.
  • Instructs and counsels patients regarding physical and mental health.
  • Orders or supplies medication appropriate for the patient.
  • If necessary, refers patients to appropriate specialists or specialized services.
  • Provides immediate evaluation and treatment for emergency medical problems. Directs emergency personnel in transport of the patient.
  • Maintains knowledge of community services, agencies and resources.
  • Documents all patient care activities and follow-up care. Maintains adequate and appropriate office and hospital medical records and physician referral communication with respect toall patients examined and/or treated.
  • Assures quality of patient care is provided by appropriate monitoring and evaluation. Directs other clinic staff in the provision and execution of medical care.
  • Assists Office Manager in assessing/maintaining equipment, pharmaceutical and recordkeeping needs.
  • Assists in the development, implementation and review of quality of care standards and activities for services provided through the facility and assures the proper and medically appropriate provision of care to patients.
  • Assures and maintains adequate and qualified physician call coverage and its patients during absence or off-duty hours.
  • Participates in the required activities of the medical staff of Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City and/or appropriate regional hospitals.
  • Participates in the formal governance process of Mercy clinics.
  • Represents the clinic and Mercy to the media when appropriate.
  • Participates in staff educational inservice meetings.
  • Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment.

What We Are Looking For

  • Graduate of a medical/osteopathic medical school is required. Demonstrated competency as a physician by completion of an appropriate residency program; board certified or board eligible. Must be able to obtain Mercy Medical Center – Sioux City medical staff privileges.
  • Must have a valid and unrestricted state medical license and federal and state controlled substance registrations/certificates.
  • Must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) or more advanced certification, i.e., ACLS, PALS, etc. Completes and stays current with Mandatory Reporting requirements.
  • Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.) Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Mercy and Trinity Health.
