Transportation Manager Job Description
Summary and Purpose
The Danimer Transportation Manager will report to the Supply Chain Director. As transportation Manager you will lead our fast-paced operation responsible for all metrics, financial results, and development of personnel The Transportation Manager at Danimer will be responsible reviewing and contracting warehousing and transportation services to support multiple Danimer locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safety: All PPE ( Personal Protective Equipment) Guidelines are to be followed and if neglected will lead to termination. Safety glasses, Safety Shoes, Ear protection (mask protection due to COVID), cell phone usage policies, LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out) and any other safety requirements must be followed.
- Understand Deadlines: Excellent Attendance and Punctuality is required as the Danimer teams are lean and each persons’ presence is required for production to run safely and efficiently.
- Understand Goals: Quality and Quantity matter, in that order. As a company we need to efficiently make quality product. Each employee plays an important role in this goal.
- Fork Lift: Shipping Associates will complete forklift safety training and will be responsible for operating or using material handling equipment such as fork lifts and pallet jacks plus any other equipment found on or around receiving dock in order to efficiently move product from staging areas into trailers, ocean containers, other warehouse locations.
- Danimer Culture: Danimer expects all employees to be team players, willing to support and help other departments when asked, in activities for which the employee is trained or will be receiving training. The attitude of “that’s not my job” will not be accepted. Danimer employees should show up ready to work. Appropriate break times are provided and the employee is expected to manage personal affairs on break times or outside of work hours. Once trained, employees are expected to self-manage their work in accordance with the supervisor’s direction. There is always something to do to help the department, when in doubt, ask your supervisor.
- The ideal candidate will oversee all activities of managers, supervisors, drivers, dockworkers, and other support personnel
- He/she will provide training, performance feed-back, and disciplinary recommendations when necessary
The Transportation Manager will
- Manage carriers, warehouses, as needed and negotiate and monitor existing services to support Danimer Inventory needs, shipping and receiving needs as per production and customer shipment schedules.
- Knowledge of proper freight handling techniques
- Knowledge of DOT, OSHA & safe package handling protocols
- Help maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work areas.
- Maintain positive work relationships with all employees.
- Adhere to all established procedures to ensure a high level of quality
- Oversee the work areas as assigned, keeping the dock area clean and free of debris or materials that would prevent or hamper shipping and receiving efforts.
Education and Experience- Minimum Qualifications
- Relative College Degree (Supply Chain or Business) or 5-10 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment in a transportation-shipping and receiving role. Management experience preferred. Rail Transportation a plus.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Experience with an inventory management system, or other automated inventory software is a plus.
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Office as well as any industry standard computer programs – sending emails and updating spreadsheets.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet set deadlines, establish priorities and multi-task in an organized manner.
The Ideal SC Transportation Candidate will have:
Experience with purchasing and supply chain documents and be able to create upon request in compliance with company requirements, industry standards and compliant with any regulatory agency needed.
