The Substation Project Lead is responsible for leading small teams of engineers and designers to support project work. The project lead is responsible for the technical direction and supervision of a project. The project lead may assist in client communications, project proposals, and project reporting. This position supports substation programs and projects managers. This position requires technical competency and knowledge, good communication skills, and the ability to lead and organize substation projects teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the technical direction and supervision of a team of engineers, designers and technicians.
- Supports establishing work assignments.
- Monitoring the engineering/design progress project to ensure effective utilization of project team.
- Monitor and ensure the quality on all projects and work performed by the project team.
- Performs technical oversight and coordinates checking/review of project deliverables and other project documents to ensure the quality of the work performed.
- Assists project or program managers in scoping and estimating projects, developing fee and scope proposals.
- Assists project or program managers in managing budgeted hours, and project schedule.
- Promotes a strong safety culture within the project team and advocate the incorporation safe work practices into all activities.
- Work with programs/projects managers to identify best practices of project execution to help improve project quality, productivity, and efficiency.
- Work with the engineering manager to identify potential areas of engineering processes, and/or procedures improvements.

Authority
- Helps program and project manages determine staffing needs to accommodate project workload.
Accountability
- Coordinates checking and review of deliverables.
- Follows up on construction issues with design staff to resolve problems and concerns in a timely manner.
Competencies
- Strong high to medium voltage substation design and technical knowledge
- Ability to identify, analyze, and solve technical problems related to substation design.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Aptitude for developing a strong working relationship with management, group leads, and substation staffs.
- Good interpersonal skills, able to build relationships and select team members for specific projects based on skill sets of individual staff members.
- Willingness to develop, promote and comply with Mesa safety requirements.

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $100K to $115K
The expected compensation is a range determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, and qualifications of the candidate, internal equity, work location, and hiring department’s fiscal resources.
