What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Operations & Planning position at Meta?

The Communications & Public Affairs org is looking for an experienced leader to support its Programs, Operations & Planning team. The Programs, Operations & Planning team is responsible for guiding the org through the annual strategy development & planning process, overseeing budget, headcount and financial planning, maintaining and optimizing org-wide tooling, org-wide initiatives and programs, the Company Calendar program, special projects, MarCom integration, and the program management function for the org. This leader will partner with teams across the org (and the company), as well as marketing, finance, human resources, and recruiting to make analytically-driven strategic decisions, and ensure execution through increasing the operational rigor of the org. This leader will also be responsible for driving the annual strategic planning process, including ensuring integration with marketing and other key stakeholders at the highest level, and maintaining the Company Calendar program to drive on-going alignment of the external narrative and strategy of Meta. The successful candidate must be able to roll-up his/her sleeves and have a strong bias for action. They will be passionate about their work, detail-oriented, analytical, and have excellent problem-solving abilities. They must have strong people management skills, and the proven ability to lead a team. They will drive towards simple, scalable solutions to difficult problems, have excellent project and program management skills, be able to communicate complex issues in a clear and easy-to-understand way, and be able to influence stakeholders across the company.


Director, Operations & Planning Responsibilities:

  • Identify and structure high priority and large scale programs by working with business stakeholders, managing communications, developing detailed project and program plans, overseeing milestones, timelines, driving change-management, and leading cross-functional partners to deliver on objectives.
  • Lead the annual marcom strategic planning process.
  • Forecast and track the organization’s resources, to ensure high ROI.
  • Closely collaborate with cross-functional teams (including Finance, Recruiting, HR, Marketing) to execute on org-wide priorities.
  • Establish a regular operating cadence with cross-functional teams to track, communicate, and drive towards set program goals and KPIs. Identify key roadblocks to progress, and work efficiently to remove them.
  • Communicate with leadership on a regular basis, highlighting progress towards goals, key risks and dependencies.
  • Create and manage an integrated program calendar of key deliverables.
  • Drive proactive communications by reporting on status, progress, milestones, deliverables, outcomes, and lessons learned to all applicable parties.



Minimum Qualifications:

  • 12 or more years of work experiences with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Strategy, or an associated discipline, or at least 10 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree
  • 5 years of experience in a fast-paced environment navigating ambiguity successfully
  • Experience working with or in support of many different business units, bonus if that experience is in supporting a function like comms or marketing
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and drive initiatives in a cross-functional environment
  • Experience managing a team and leading cross-functional programs
