Meta is seeking a PhD Student through a short term contract to join the AI HW-SW Codesign team. The team is part of the Infrastructure organization and its mission is to research, develop and productize hardware and software technologies for compute, storage and AI systems. We are seeing individuals seeking individuals that are passionate in areas such as computer architecture, workload analysis and performance optimizations for AI and datacenter workloads. This position would be a fixed term for PhD students enrolled in University. Applicants are expected to be pursuing a PhD in one of the areas listed above.


Visiting Researcher (PhD) Responsibilities:

  • Apply relevant Compute/Storage/AI infrastructure techniques to build & optimize our systems that improve Meta’s products and experiences.
  • Perform research to define use cases, and develop methodology & benchmarks to evaluate different approaches and deliver impact through deep, thorough data-driven analysis.
  • Perform research on how the workloads interact with hardware and develop HW/SW techniques to improve performance of these systems @scale.



Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program in a technical field such as Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • Knowledge in computer system, distributed systems/infrastructure, and their performance.
  • Knowledge in Machine Learning and relevant programming languages (e.g., PyTorch).
  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge in Python, C , C.
  • Research and software engineer experience demonstrated via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or open-source contributions.
  • Experience HW/SW techniques for AI Infrastructure and/or datacenter deployments.
