Summary:
As a Wearable Technology Research Scientist at Meta Reality Labs, you will work with a cross-functional team including electrical, mechanical, and materials scientists and engineers delivering on early phase research in wearable systems. This role is expected to lead a portfolio of research investments yielding step function improvements in capability or performance of body coupled systems, sensors, and actuators. This role will be a key participant in building Proof of Concepts (POC) or Proof of Experience (POE) in collaboration with hardware, materials, and manufacturing research, and engineering development teams. The role is expected to lead across engineering and science teams in Reality Labs Research with roadmaps and white papers proposing or realizing fundamentally new capabilities within the domains of mechanics, biomechanics, interaction, and Human Computer Interfaces.

- Lead hardware research teams in defining, designing, and developing fundamental technologies for AR/VR research programs.
- Develop strategic relationships with product peers and engineering, research, business, design, and user research teams to help define research requirements and architecture.
- Lead the progression of research from benchtop to scalable prototype.
- Identify promising technologies or research areas and direct concept validation against business need.
- Motivate teams and projects towards planning, engineering and standing-up VR/AR POCs or POEs.

- 10 years of industrial or academic experience in research and development.
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or related field.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a research institution, managing students, researchers, leading committees or conference sessions, or equivalent experience.
- A history of publication or IP generation in materials science or related field.
- Collaboration and relationship-building experience, working with all levels of management and individual contributors internally and externally.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
