Methods designs and implements custom machining setups, including machine tool selection, automation integration, and turnkey automation cells. The corporate campus in Sudbury, Mass., comprises a showroom/technical center, which contains automation, applications, and a full range of cutting-edge machines. Methods has more than 375 employees, nine technology centers, one high precision machining center, and has installed in excess of 40,000 machines throughout North America.
We currently have the following career opportunity available in Wixom, Michigan:
Title: Automation Engineer
Responsibility: The Automation Engineer will be responsible for the integration of Fanuc automation systems with CNC machines. This position requires high energy and a positive attitude with the capability and desire to continuously engage with the team to drive projects to completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble and install robot and automation system components into machine tools or as standalone cells for various applications.
- Evaluate and resolve any issues with the form, fit, function, and communication elements of automation cells.
- Prepare system for test production and demonstration for the customer.
- Provide automation training at the customer upon installation and phone support long term.
- Travel to customer sites for support and turnkey runoffs. Overnight stays are required in some instances.
- Identify and understand customer requirements and concerns to come to mutually beneficial resolutions.
- Provide phone support to customers, both internal and external.
- Report to management on any progress, delays or issues and provide an action plan to resolve.
- All other duties as required to support team and organization.
Travel:
30-50% travel required to support installation and start-up activities.
Required Qualifications:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to read, troubleshoot, and implement systems from provided mechanical and electrical schematics.
- Ability to interact across multiple departments, including Sales, Applications, and Service, to seek customer feedback, implementing changes where necessary.
- Ability to solve complex problems independently utilizing critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and projects to ensure delivery on time and within budget.
- Valid drivers license.
- Reliable transportation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Proven experience with machine tools, automation systems and related components such as: tooling, fixtures, controllers, conveyers, pallet systems, vision, alternative infeed/outfeed solutions, electrical interfacing requirements.
- Experience integrating, programming, and debugging Fanuc robots.
- Experience with Fanuc CNC controls.
Education:
- BS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electromechanical Engineering, or related technical degree or Technical School certificate, Trade school.
- High School Diploma Required
