What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Accountant position at MetLife?
Role Value Proposition:
Independently performs a variety of more advanced accounting functions involving the processing and reconciling of accounts within either an accounting or related financial area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs difficult examination and checking operations to ensure the completeness and accuracy of accounting records, including reviewing original source documents, determine proper coding of transactions, and/or adjusting accounting entries.
- Research causes for discrepancies through basic analysis and review, and makes corrections or adjustments where appropriate to ensure accuracy; need to resolve complex problems independently.
- Compiles data; prepares periodic statements and reports; may prepare special accounting reports and metrics.
- Responds to complex inquiries from other accounting or financial areas regarding account entries, transaction coding, or adjustments.
- Supports TPA’s with questions, assist with month end.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
- Complete month end tasks, including accruals, reconciliations, data gathering, and analysis.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
Required:
- 2-4 year Accounting degree or 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience
- Analytical and reconciliation experience of cash and suspense accounts
Preferred:
- Bachelor of Accounting degree
- Prior 3 – 5 years of Annuity Accounting experience, preferred
- Knowledge of working in PeopleSoft general ledger, excel, and access databases, preferred
