Position: Assistant Vice President and Actuary (Modeling & ALM)
Job Location: St. Louis, MO 11330 Olive Boulevard (preferred): Alternate Job Locations: Bridgewater, NJ, New York, NY, or Wilmington, DE. (Office schedule is hybrid with 3-days in the office and 2-days out.)
Department: Retail Life Actuarial is responsible for Stat, GAAP and Tax valuation, Embedded Value, Experience Studies and Asset/Liability management functions for the Retail Life Product line within MetLife Holdings.
The Role: The AVP and Actuary leading this team will be responsible for producing and analyzing various valuations within MetLife’s US Retail Life business, as well as advising on various areas within MetLife concerning projection-related questions. This role reports to the Retail Life Lead Actuary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Production, analysis and communication of Cash Flow Testing (CFT), Embedded Value (EV), ALM, and other actuarial projections to senior management for U.S. Retail Life Business
- Prophet modeling oversight which includes maintaining working knowledge of models, managing relationship while maintaining close communication with Global Actuarial Modeling (GAM) Department
- Serve as member of the MLH ALM Working Group; Advise on various objectives/initiatives related to the management of assets backing the Retail Life Liabilities
- Support/advise Product and Dividend departments in setting credited rates for universal life and participating whole life products
- Partner with IT and GAM departments to support Prophet model’s functionality in MIAME/Thanos grid processing environment
- Develop/maintain controls for complex Prophet model input/output
- Ensure appropriateness of actuarial assumptions used in projection models
- Serve as key line of defense in erroneous assumptions, model inputs, and model output
- Collaborate with Retail Life Valuation team in assumption/projection alignment for Retail Life
- Actively partner with and advise CFO, Reinsurance, Risk, Investments, Valuation, Experience Studies and other business partners.
- Manage total team of 8 with 2 direct reports

- Reports to: Vice President Retail Life Lead Actuary
- Direct reports/team: 2 direct reports / 8 total team
- Key Stakeholders: CFO, Reinsurance, MetLife Holdings, Valuations, Experience Studies, ALM, Investments
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science or related discipline
- 7-10 years of Actuarial experience
- FSA designation
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, Access, and VBA
- 3 years’ experience managing people
- 5 years’ experience working in modeling and working with life insurance products, preferably in Prophet
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with tight timelines
- Strong leadership skills and ability to mentor/grow new talent
- Desire to continuously improve processes and model projections
- Ability to effectively explain complex concepts in a simple manner
- High attention to detail and analytical skills
- Ability to use creativity to find solutions to complex issues
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
