Under the direction of the Associate Executive, the Pickleball Special Instructor
(Coach) will provide Pickleball lessons to students of varying ages and skill sets. The Coach’s responsibilities include evaluating students’ performance, ensuring that all equipment is in good working order, and educating students on game strategies and good sportsmanship. You should also maintain a professional appearance at all times. The Coach should be knowledgeable of different coaching methods and able to perform first aid as needed. Ultimately, an outstanding Coach should be able to motivate students as well as demonstrate exceptional communication, problem-solving and organizational skills.
Minimum Requirements:
- Proven experience working as a Pickleball Coach or Instructor.
- Sound knowledge of various coaching techniques.
- CPR within 30 days of employment and must maintain the certification throughout employment.
- Certification through the USA Pickleball Association (USAPA) or is advantageous.
- The ability to motivate students.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- A passion for Pickleball.
Responsibilities :
- This position must perform duties in accordance with the policies, goals, mission, values and objectives established by the Metropolitan Atlanta YMCA, Branch Strategic Plan, Safety Protocols Including COVID, and Member Services Guidelines and YMCA Non-Negotiables. Emphasis will be placed on member service, program knowledge, member/staff safety, and communication with members and staff.
- Implements the YMCA safety protocols both related to COVID and branch operations.
- Implement wellness checks and provide a leadership role in ensuring member/staff adherence to the safety protocols, with a commitment to positive member and staff safety.
- Assisting students in developing and improving various Pickleball skills.
- Assessing students’ Pickleball skills to determine areas in need of improvement.
- Coordinating and conducting individual and group Pickleball lessons.
- Developing suitable training programs for students based on their age, objectives and individual skill sets.
- Developing innovative ways to assist beginner or younger students in learning and remembering the rules of the game.
- Identifying the learning styles that work best for each student and adapting all coaching methods accordingly.
- Providing a secure and productive learning environment for students.
- Scheduling meetings with students’ parents or guardians to discuss their progress.
- Attending students’ Pickleball matches, competitions and tournaments as required.
- Create and manage curriculum for USAPA practices.
- Evaluate and place new members on USAPA teams to grow member involvement in Pickleball.
- Maintain Pickleball court facilities and equipment in accordance with Risk Management’s policies as directed.
- Maintain and assist with court maintenance as directed.
- Record and report schedules and rosters for adult Pickleball programming and assist with ensuring payments are collected.

This position has a primary impact on the overall effectiveness of the Pickleball program and the success of services to the community. The effectiveness of this position is primarily measured by the stated satisfaction of members and ensuring a safe, clean, controlled and fun environment in accordance with the Metro Atlanta YMCA Sports Philosophy.
