What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Manager (Prog Mgr 1)-Office of Homeless Services position at Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County?
The Shelter Manager position with the Office of Homeless Services (OHS) will guide the community efforts, by coordinating with other Metro departments, overseeing severe weather community response, supervising shelter needs, and ensuring that it is staffed appropriately. Conducting all administrative responsibilities related to community and agency safety, with Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and with the severe weather shelter. Plan and organize Metro’s response team for monthly encampment clean ups across Davidson County. Responsible for professional duties involved in assisting customers, staff, and the agency via daily operation of seasonal demands as it relates to Nashville’s unhoused neighbors for the Office of Homeless Services. Designing and collaborating on behalf of Metro to build the appropriate response during times of seasonal demands and extreme weather including but not limited to hypothermia, hyperthermia, severe storms, floods, and dry no burning season. (12 per year)
This position routinely requires nights and weekends, as well as working an on-call basis.
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of supervisory and/or administrative experience.
OR
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of supervisory and/or administrative experience.

- Operates and staffs the Metro Severe Weather Shelter and any other shelters necessary during seasonal demands.
- Provides direct supervision and monitoring of agency providing services on behalf of Metro, awarded Metro funding, or utilizing Metro’s building for severe weather response.
- Serves with the Director on certain agency projects and being the agency operations management point of contact.
- Develops, coordinates, and maintains appropriate solutions for seasonal weather demands including transportation needs and building demands.
- Works across the division of programs and community providers with all customers and staff to ensure the overall safety and security of all parties.
- Secures the maintenance schedule on the Metro approved building for service delivery; including the vans and cars and works closely with the Office Manager and Fleet.
- Monitors for quality control with food vendors, vehicle vendors, and any shelter vendors/partners.
- Addresses complaints, concerns, or issues as it pertains to the customers and vendors on the agency’s behalf.
- Serves as an active lead part of the agency safety plan and committee not just internal but also with the Office of Emergency Management.

- Experience working with Homeless population
- Supervisory experience
- CPR and Narcan certified
- Intermediate to advance computer skills in Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel
