JOB FUNCTIONS:

Participates in CREATE therapeutic programming within the therapeutic afterschool environment serving homeless children and families in our onsite housing programs. Board Certified Behavior Analyst will work with the elementary age groups.  The Board Certified Behavior Analyst goal on each team is to design, implement, and monitor behavioral plans for each child- (if applicable) to assure a calm and nurturing environment. The Board Certified Behavior Analyst will be trained in ABA techniques and will implement the client’s individual behavior plan, monitor the behavior plan, and train staff and natural supports (such as family members and teachers) in the behavior plan. 


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITITES

  • Examines the function of behavior, offering caregivers and staff tools that promote pro-social skill development & positive interactions. 
  • The Board Certified Behavior Analyst will create a behavioral plan for each child in their group- (if applicable) and will be responsible for implementing and monitoring the child’s individual behavior plan and training the staff and natural supports on the plan and techniques it requires to be successful.
  •  Utilizes Trauma-Informed Behavior Support (TIBS) is an intervention which utilizes Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques and tools with trauma-informed care principles to help explain the etiology of behavior, decreasing reactivity of the staff or caregiver and helping to create an environment of empathy and attunement. 
  • Utilizes TIBS to promote positive relationships and pro-social skill building in a group residential setting for children.
  • Provides parents with information about how to implement their child’s behavior plan at home and works with children under the supervision of the Therapeutic Specialist.
  • Implements the behavior plan, including the training sessions, overall procedures, informal procedures or protocols, and the crisis intervention plan, if any.
  • Will be responsible for training staff and natural supports in all aspects of the behavior plan/techniques.  Is also responsible for training staff in protocols and procedures as directed by the Director of School Aged Programs. 
  • May supervise ABA interns as needed.
  • Is responsible for training in acquisition and replacement skills, under the direction of the Director of School Aged Programs. 
  • Will be responsible for directing the recreational and leisure skills of the person with whom they are working as needed.  Will provide direction and encouragement to the individual they are serving in staying active, implementing skill development, social skills, and other available training opportunities.
  • Responsible for monitoring and training in approved crisis techniques under the direction and supervision of the Director of School Aged Programs.
  • Responsible for providing feedback and modeling of appropriate techniques, regarding the behavioral plan and approved procedures, policies, and protocols regarding behavioral treatment to the individuals served. 
  • Observes staff/natural supports implementing technique/skill/procedure.
  • Provides feedback to staff/natural supports regarding the behavior of the staff, providing positive feedback and then identifying areas of improvement.
  • Shows staff/natural supports how to implement the technique/skill/procedure appropriately.
  • Gives staff/natural supports a second opportunity to implement the technique/skill/procedure appropriately.
  • Provides positive feedback to the staff/natural supports.
  • Will step in as Group Leader as needed.


  • Documentation:
  • Required to complete all information on the behavioral data sheets, training data sheets, support data sheets, and all relevant data collection. 
  • Will monitor and train the supports for the client (such as family members and teachers) in proper documentation.
  • Will document services provided on their daily service logs.  These notes are a description of the services provided, focused primarily on training, implementation of the behavioral plan, and integration and monitoring of the other supports.

Requirements


Education and Experience:  A minimum of a B.A. or B.S. degree in an education, health or social services related field. Experience in the fields of social services or education required.  Direct experience working with children and parents required.  BCBA or ABA certification preferred. Bi-lingual preferred. Must complete 40 hour training, complete examination and obtain 40 hour certification within 90 days of hire.


Skill Requirements: Must be able to work effectively with children and parents, representing and communicating their status and progress to small groups and professionals within a network comprised of the Hillsborough County School District, Metropolitan Ministries service providers, and applicable and related medical social service providers in the surrounding community.  Must be able to work within a multi-disciplinary team framework; strong interpersonal and supervisory skills; strong oral and written communications skills; dependability; demonstrates maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences in clients served; ability to handle job related matters in a professional, diplomatic, and confidential manner; willing to work with minimal supervision, yet be able to accept direction; well organized and detail oriented.  Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Access, Word and Excel required.


Requires heart for ministry and comfort working with poor and homeless families and individuals. Requires understanding of poverty, a high degree of maturity, strong inter-personal skills and the ability to work with low socio-economic and diverse populations facing crisis situations in a professional and diplomatic manner. Knowledge of community resources available to homeless population. Must demonstrate maturity and sensitivity to issues of faith, culture, and other sources of diversity. Ability to work as part of a team within a multi-disciplinary framework.


Physical Requirements: Hearing and speaking ability, which allows for effective oral communication; physical and emotional stamina to effectively handle job related issues and stress. 

 

Must pass applicable pre-employment screening and demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States.  Must be available to work during normal after school hours and for evening meetings as required.  Must pass required background pre-employment screening.  Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to transport self and clients when necessary.
