Job Functions:The role of the Holiday Seasonal Chaplain is to support Metropolitan Ministries clients, staff, and volunteers during the holiday season (November and December). This position is competent to perform pastoral care functions as needed to support the spiritual and emotional health and wellbeing of those served. This position will help the Spiritual Care department maintain a web of support for clients, staff, and volunteers during holiday assistance distribution, particularly in the Holiday Tent. The Holiday Seasonal Chaplain will be expected to perform any of the following responsibilities.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Director of Spiritual Care to assess and address spiritual care needs within the Holiday Tent.
- Provide prayer support for clients in Holiday Tent using trauma-informed spiritual care model. Support the spiritual wellbeing of the staff and volunteers through ministry of presence, pastoral conversations, prayer, and encouraging self-care.
- Coordinate with Director of Spiritual Care to support and guide individual volunteer Prayer Partners serving with Spiritual Formation in the Holiday Tent.
- Receive training in Sanctuary model of trauma-informed care as pertains to job function.
- Receive training on phone and computer systems used in administrative functions, and participate in online meetings.
- Maintain safe environment by complying with all procedures, rules, and regulations. This includes current safety protocol for masks, distancing, hand-washing, and any other safety procedures.
- Support the team in other tasks as assigned. Meet personal goals and actively contribute to the achievement of team and organizational targets/goals as stated in Key Performance Indicators and in the annual plan. Support the Holiday Center Operation and other events as directed.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
Masters of Divinity or equivalent; at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required. Previous work experience in pastoral care or chaplaincy, including hospice, hospital, academic, or military chaplaincy. Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google documents, and virtual meeting platforms.
Skill Requirements:
Must be able to communicate effectively in English; additional language (Spanish, Kreyol, ASL) skills highly preferred. Requires ability to recognize and support various pastoral care issues. Must be dependable, demonstrate maturity and sensitivity to issues of faith, culture, and other sources of diversity, ability to organize work and attend to detail, and ability to handle job-related matters in a professional and diplomatic manner. Customer service, effective communication, and a positive, helpful attitude are necessary. Dedication to confidentiality and understanding of legal parameters required.
Physical Requirements:
Hearing and speaking ability which allows for effective oral communication of information; physical, emotional and spiritual stamina to handle job-related issues and stress.
Other:
Demonstrates a passion for the mission and vision of Metropolitan Ministries. Position requires average 20 hours per week for November-December. Some evening and weekend availability necessary.
