Description

The Electrical Designer is a trusted member of the project team, working under the direct supervision of the Lead Electrical Designer to provide valuable design support. This includes creating trade-specific schematics & layouts based on solid design principles and performing project functions such as surveys, calculations, selections & layouts. The Designer assists the design team with all project phases and effectively communicates with peers, supervisors, vendors, consultants, clients & stakeholders. This includes assisting in the construction administration process with the ability to process and review shop drawings, perform field observations, and prepare respective reports. The Designer is fully capable of assuming the Job Captain function.

Qualifications


  • Minimum 2yrs experience working, at a minimum, as a Junior Designer under the direct or indirect supervision of a licensed professional engineer.
  • 4-year Engineering degree.
  • Great interpersonal skills.
  • Polished communication skills (both verbal & writing).
  • Highly organized and composed under pressure.
  • Must be able to manage strict timelines with multiple projects in order to meet deadlines under high-pressure environment.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD & REVIT.

Computer Aided Design

Level 1 (Basic Proficiency)

AutoCAD

  • Able to operate the CAD workstation native environment – hardware and operating system software.
  • File management: Knows how to open, save, find, and copy files over a network.
  • Creates basic geometry using the 2D draw and modify commands.
  • Easily works with real-time pan and zoom.
  • Utilizes drawing aids such as snap, ortho, and osnap.
  • Organize entities onto appropriate layers.
  • Able to determine the scales of various hardcopy output.
  • Creates annotation (text and dimensions) in a professional style and size.
  • Understands page layouts, viewports, plot styles, and plotting.
  • Can use template drawings.
  • Uses inquiry commands to assure accuracy.
  • Effectively use blocks and the Design Center.
  • Able to edit with grips and selection sets.
  • Understands orthographic and multi-view projection.
  • Ably uses the Help utility.

REVIT

  • Ability to launch/open the Revit Project properly
  • Understands the User interface.
  • Navigates the Project Browser to review Sheets for appropriate graphic layout.
  • Understands Sheet Sets for Submissions
  • Ably determines hardcop

Electrical Engineering

Level 1 (Basic Proficiency)

  • Understands and can apply basic conduit & wire sizing principals.
  • Understands all drawing conventions in order to ably draft any type of Electrical System plan, detail, riser and schedule.
  • Understands the basic principles of electrical load calculations.
  • Recognizes differences in components of electrical systems and their applications.
  • Recognizes applicable codes and standards. Basic familiarity with the first four chapters of the NEC.
