The Challenge:

As a Heavy Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing heavy construction equipment, including bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, loaders, cranes, and other machinery used in construction projects. You will diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the equipment. You will also perform routine maintenance and inspections to prevent breakdowns and extend the lifespan of the machinery.

What You’ll Do:

  1. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems with heavy construction equipment.
  2. Repair and replace damaged or worn parts using hand and power tools.
  3. Test and adjust equipment components to ensure proper operation and adherence to manufacturer specifications.
  4. Perform routine maintenance, such as oil changes, fluid checks, and filter replacements, to prevent breakdowns and extend the lifespan of the equipment.
  5. Conduct inspections of equipment to identify potential problems and make recommendations for repair or replacement.
  6. Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance performed on each piece of equipment.
  7. Operate equipment as needed to diagnose and test performance issues.
  8. Train and mentor new mechanics on proper procedures and best practices for maintenance and repair. 

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or certification preferred.
  2. At least 5 years of experience in maintenance and repair of heavy construction equipment.
  3. Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical skills.
  4. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  5. Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations.
  6. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  7. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  9. Willingness to work flexible hours and occasional overtime.
  10. Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and machinery.
  11. Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions and environments.
  12. Ability to stand, bend, and stoop for extended periods of time.
  13. Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces as needed.
