What are the responsibilities and job description for the OSP Designer position at Mi-Tech?
Mi-Tech offers a broad range of professional, engineering and technical services to the telecommunications and power delivery markets. We have a current opening for an OSP Designer. At Mi-Tech, we support our customers and stakeholders and constantly strive to exceed expectations with all of our services, which include: Communications Design Services, Energy Distribution Services, Utility Pole Inspection, and Environmental Services.
This position requires a more experienced member who is responsible for supporting all aspects of outside plant design, (OSP) services. Must demonstrate a good understanding of outside plant design, transmission and distribution procedures, cable placement and splicing practices. Must have a good understanding of telecommunication industry standards and or CATV and practices and understanding of government codes and regulations.
Job Duties:
- Interpret customer provided route proposals and incorporate into OSP design
- Ability to acquire field data to be used in the OSP design, import collected data into OSP design. Associate collected features to correct design features within AutoCAD
- Ability to determine ROW locations
- Determine correct customer template to be used in creation of construction and permitting drawings
- Determine construction unit descriptions with minimal direction
- Ability to complete the design of OSP projects, aerial, buried and underground using AutoCAD, Adobe, GIS, and Excel with minimal direction
- Complete construction unit and material summaries with minimal direction
- Capable of completing ROW permitting and submittal as needed on behalf of facility owner
- Ability to interpret road construction plans and identifying facility conflicts with assistance
- Confirms all deliverable documents are complete at project handoff with minimal direction
- Attend site walks, pre-con meetings and follow up calls
- Introduction to fiber/copper counts, ability to call out, assign and push counts (work will be QC’d)
- Ability to utilize customer software to write project narratives
- Ability to calculate engineering and construction units, compile materials and retirement lists for various project types
- Ability to provide accurate estimates for CRT and CIAC projects
- Travel, including overnight travel
Qualifications:
- High School diploma
- Associates degree preferred
- OSP Telecom experience preferred
- 2-3 years related experience
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS, and Microsoft Suite software
- Demonstrated ability to critically think
