What are the responsibilities and job description for the Agent of Wine - Tasting Room position at Mia Carta Napa?

We are seeking a dynamic individual to provide a professional and entertaining experience selling premium wines from the Napa Valley and beyond. Located in downtown Napa on First Street, Mia Carta is a collective tasting room representing nine small, exclusive Napa-based wineries. Applicants should be proactive and outgoing with an interest in the wine industry and hospitality. We’re looking for a polished professional comfortable conducting personalized, informative and enjoyable wine tastings and sales on behalf of our member vintners. Each tasting experience highlights the vintners’ own brands. Mia Carta also offers wines by the glass. The ideal candidate will positively represent Mia Carta and the various wineries while engaging, educating, and entertaining guests. As part of a small team, there is also the opportunity to learn additional skills, take on additional responsibilities and move up within the company.

Applicants must be knowledgeable about and interested in wines and Napa in general, and ideally have a year of hospitality, restaurant, sales or other relevant experience. The individual would be required to work evenings, weekends and occasional holidays when necessary. This is an $15-20/hour position (based on experience) tip share and bottle sales commissions. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct wine tastings for our member vintners - handle, present and pour wine while educating consumers about the wines
  • Sell wines, wine clubs and other retail products
  • Provide responsible beverage service
  • Collect names and email addresses for future contacts
  • Accurately perform sales transactions using our POS System (WineDirect)
  • Stock supplies and maintain displays in retail areas
  • Participate in company-sponsored wine educational and development opportunities
  • Assist with special hospitality events that occur at hours outside of normal operations, as required
  • Provide excellent customer service in all areas
  • Fulfil certain administrative duties as needed

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Public speaking experience, and extroverted personality
  • Competency in WineDirect point-of-sale system
  • Skilled in basic math
  • Skilled in critical thinking and problem solving
  • Experience interpreting a variety of instructions (written and oral)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledgeable about and interested in wines, wine production and Napa in general
  • High school diploma or GED; college degree preferred
  • One year of hospitality, restaurant or sales experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and clean DMV record
  • Over 21 years old
  • Able to repeatedly lift 40lb boxes, stand, sit and walk for extended periods.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
