This is a manual work in the operation of motor vehicles used to transport animals; entails the care and handling of animals; prepare and disinfect vehicles and crates to safely transport pets; utilizing transport vehicles (i.e. cargo vans, truck, trailers) to transport animals to other shelter facilities, local and out-of-state rescue organizations, and to their pickup origin. The out-of-state transportation assignments may require weekly 2-4 days road-trips, 2-3 per month or more. Duties include but not limited to assisting with the selection and processing of animals identified for the transport program; including ensuring the appropriate vaccines, medications, treatments are administered prior to their transport; conducts inventory of animals to be transported to ensure the accounting of each one and validates records.
