The Attorney is to act as a client advocate during their time of need. The Attorney will provide our clients with superior Client Care and deliver the Michael G. Hostilo, LLC Attorneys at Law (MH) mission “to earn our clients' trust and respect”, while focusing on superior case results.
Principal Roles
- Legal: The Attorney will be accountable for all assigned cases including the firms more complex, and potential high value cases. This requires a deep knowledge of all applicable legal statutes.
- Client Care: The Attorney provides the two-fold benefit of securing the best outcome for our clients coupled with empathy and care.
- Mentoring: Works with Associate Attorney(s) and other staff to enhance their professional capabilities with respect to managing cases. Professional capabilities include legal and client care considerations.
- Leadership: The Attorney will partner with management including case management, intake and litigation to focus resources for our clients. Respect and teamwork are hallmarks of the position.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Meet and/or interview clients to prepare them and set their expectations relating to their case. Quickly and effectively review client deliverables, make worthwhile edits, and articulate the benefits to the client.
- Maintain an active personal caseload and develop a system (and calendar) to manage a high volume of cases to create a strong revenue stream.
- Commit to be a student of the business. Even an experienced attorney faces a learning curve to handle the demands and complexities of major cases.
- Screen all cases that are identified as serious injury directly from the intake team. Make the 72-hour call, monitor, triage the cases based on potential outcome, complexity and specific client needs.
- Serve as the “first line of defense” to resolve client issues. This endeavor includes contacting the client, taking corrective action, and if necessary, escalating the case with staff to resolve issues.
- Ensures that personal milestones/goals are met while adhering to approved budgets. In addition, develops the metrics for the appropriate market and files reports summarizing performance.
- Develop and foster collaborative relationships with local, state, and federal agencies, other legal services providers and law firms with the goal of bringing new clients to the firm.
- Assist and mentor less experienced attorneys in case preparation and development of expertise, including research and summarizing relevant information to the case.
- Works closely with staff to evaluate case analytics and cost. Provide quarterly audit to set case priorities (top 5) and provide guidance for forecasting.
- Review and examine forms and documents for all cases to ensure completeness and accuracy. In addition, execute settling agreements and maintain complete client files.
- Develop and maintain proficiency with the use of case management software to document all phases of the client workflow and apply that learning.
- Become an advocate for client care and foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, cooperation, and collaboration with regional offices and professionals in the legal and management team.
Requirements
- Attorneys must have a Juris Doctorate degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association. They must also maintain a valid South Carolina attorney’s license and completed all 403 requirements.
- 3-9 years of law firm experience required.
- Prior experience managing personal injury cases as an attorney is preferred.
- Flexibility to work different times of the day and weekends as necessary.
- Ability to travel up to 15% of the year.
