ScoutReach is the Boy Scouts of America commitment to ensuring that all young people have the opportunity to join scouting. Our programs emphasize on service to rural and urban areas as well as low income and at-risk youth.
Location: Kalamazoo and Portage Public Schools and Community Partners
General Responsibilities: The Program leader position is a part time, entry-level position with responsibilities that include leading Scouting programs, and helping youth’s self-esteem through goal achievement and recognition.
Work will include:
- Program Delivery: Responsible for delivering quality meetings and activities that enhance and support the program through in-person or virtual meetings. These programs will be age-appropriate and help to build retention through progressive and challenging opportunities.
- Tracking & Advancement: Track attendance and recognition at each session. Document program outcomes and communicate with parents and/or partners to share the program goals and values of Scouting.
- Membership: Seek opportunities for program expansion and serve as an ambassador of the Scouting program in the local community.
Wages & Qualifications: Be able to work with diverse communities. Starting pay for part time, entry-level Program Leader is up to $18 per hour. Hours per week vary depending on number of programs supervised (4-5 hours for each program; average assignment,10-20 hours per week; however, depending on availability and program locations you may work up to 25-hours per week). Must have good communication skills, ability to work independently, pay attention to detail, be comfortable using technology tools such as Microsoft 365 (Teams, Sharepoint, Word, Excel) and Zoom for team collaboration and data management. Must be a self-starter with a strong work ethic and ability to multi-task. Must be at least 18 years of age with reliable transportation. Submission of a BSA Adult volunteer application which includes a background check is required. Prior Scouting experience is not required.
Time Commitment: Must be able to work varied morning, afternoon and evening hours, during and after school between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday – Friday and/or daytime hours in summer or during school vacation times. Occasional assistance at weekend events such as campouts, training, or events with advance notice.
