JOB TITLE: Utility Worker

REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY

Perform a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled manual tasks under minimal supervision. Responsible for safe servicing, general cleaning and maintaining a safe working environment for the district fleet of buses, maintenance and other vehicles used within the district. May perform duties of similar classification of an equal or lower pay grade as required. All assigned tasks will be performed in accordance with the district policy and procedures.

This is a 12-month position.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform basic cleaning services for buses and support vehicles, to include regular washing of outside and inside of vehicle, with periodic deep cleaning.

During cleaning, inspect vehicles for defects (loose fasteners, mirror, etc.) and perform minor repairs as able to/necessary, reporting all repairs made and those in need of repair to garage personnel or supervisor.

Start and/or move vehicles around the facility grounds as needed.

Perform routine duties to include, but not limited to, checking vehicle fluid levels, and adding appropriate fuels as needed.

Daily/weekly/monthly system checks for the underground fuel tanks and fuel dispensers.

Maintain supplies in an organized manner, keep fuel area clean and free of debris. Check/replace washer fluid at fuel pumps, empty trash.

Perform daily and weekly inspections of wash bay area and drains to ensure all are clean and organized.

Sweep the parts room and other areas of the shop when time permits.

Remove and empty all trash from work areas daily.

Ensure all appropriate supplies are stocked and maintained as required.

Perform weekly inspection of power cord extension to the bus fleet, report all deficiencies to transportation office.

Perform camera system resets; pull hard drives and other basic system maintenance as needed.

Perform seat inspection of all student seats on all buses and ensure replacement parts are ordered and installed as needed.

Repair vehicles where rust is visible. This includes body rust, light assemblies, cross members, etc. To include rust work that is not mechanical in nature.

All parts and/or fluids used are required to be recorded and listed on a daily work order, by bus number.

Perform and/or assist with routine errands. Such as shuttling staff for vehicle drop offs and material procurement.

All other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Must be a high school graduate or equivalent (GED) with basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.

Skills, Certifications and Licenses

Ability to obtain and/or maintain a Class B CDL with Air Brake, Passenger and School Bus Endorsements.

Ability to obtain and/or maintain DOT physical and participate in the DOT random drug & Alcohol testing as required by the DOT.

Must pass a state and Federal Criminal Background check (fingerprint) as required by METS and the district.

Welding experience and/or certificate a plus, but not mandatory.

Ability to work independently.

General knowledge and skills working on motor vehicles.

NON-COMPETE

For a period of 24 months after the effective date of this agreement, it is understood that the employee will not directly or indirectly engage in any business with service competitors. This shall apply to the geographical area that includes the area within a sixty-mile radius of Monroe, Michigan.

WAGES

$20.00 hourly, this job may require welding subject to additional compensation.
