The Instructional Designer is responsible for working across multiple instructional delivery modalities to create high-quality learning experiences that bolster a culture of learning. The role requires excellent project management, strategic thinking, collaboration, and communication skills. This person must be knowledgeable in adult learning and instructional design strategies aimed at maximizing performance-based outcomes. They must be able to think outside the box, move quickly without sacrificing quality, and not be constrained by how things have been done before. The MSUFCU L&D curriculum may include structured, formal classroom learning with hands-on labs, as well as online synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences, all of which are purposefully designed to maximize learner competencies. They will also collaborate with other members of the L&D team, subject matter experts, and department managers to plan and design program offerings in the areas of annual compliance and professional/talent development.
Work Arrangement - This position is able to work hybrid or onsite.
Compensation & Benefits -

- Instructional Designer Level I- $54,000 dependent on experience
- Instructional Designer Level II- $67,000 dependent on experience
- Senior Instructional Designer - $75,000 dependent on experience

Essential Duties & Responsibilities -
Instructional Designer I:
- Lead projects through the design lifecycle from scoping, research and analysis, design, development, launch, and review; providing clear timelines through all phases, communicating with key partners, and selecting appropriate measurement for successful implementation
- Manage the development of instructional materials (tutorials, digital interactives, user guides, audio and video content (including scripts), story boards, navigational text, assessment tests, etc.) which transform technical information into professionally written, engaging instruction
- Identify learning objectives, assess learners and performance outcomes, and evaluative strategies to deliver instruction, including consulting with program owners and subject matter experts to identify performance gaps and learning objectives
- Apply principles of Universal Design to support a diverse learner population
- Ensure program design and materials exceed ADA standards
- Be the voice of the learner, ensuring that their needs are at the forefront of our content efforts and help our team iterate and improve on our content offerings
- Collaborate with subject matter experts across MSUFCU to build technically accurate training that meets the learning objectives
- Build relationships with key department representatives throughout MSUFCU to understand roadmaps and plans for content updates or new training offerings
- Foster teamwork and a supportive work environment
- Integrate MSUFCU's mission statement into all learning materials
- Seek knowledge of internal operations procedures throughout Branches, Call Center, and eServices to better design and evaluate training
- Document processes to ensure compliance with credit union policies, as well as state and federal regulations
- Participate in training activities to ensure staff compliance with credit union policies andstate and federal regulations and laws
- Crosstrain members of the L&D team to ensure a cohesive department approach to instructional design
- Collaborate with the L&D Manager to establish clear instructional design standards that can be communicated to stakeholders to ensure staff compliance with Credit Union policies and state and federal regulations and laws
- Perform other duties and assist other employees, as assigned
Instructional Designer II:
- All of the Instructional Designer I duties and responsibilities
- Analyze information and use critical thinking to address instruction-related issues and problems
- Apply knowledge of contemporary organizational development theory and methods
- Develop alternative training methods if expected improvements are not seen
- Stay up-to-date on new innovative approaches to instructional design, delivery methods, and organizational development
- Develop a comprehensive review process to ensure all training programs have a purposeful lifecycle
Senior Instructional Designer:
- All of the Instructional Designer I and II duties and responsibilities
- Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members
- Provide guidance and direction to the team including setting instructional design standards and providing constructive feedback on existing approaches to instructional design
- Research, evaluate, and prepare recommendations on curricula, instructional methods, and training materials
- Anticipate and take opportunities for continuous organizational and department involvement
- Provide guidance and expert advice to management, other trainers and employees
- Build a team approach to instructional design in the L&D Department
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required -
Instructional Designer I:
- High School Diploma or GED Required.
- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Distance Learning, or related field
- 2 Y experience managing complex ID/L&D projects with excellent written and verbal communication skills preferred
- Experience conducting quality analysis reviews of instructional materials
- Proven record of managing multifaceted learning projects with tight deadlines
- Experience managing multiple simultaneous projects in instructional design, distance learning, corporate training, or a directly related field
- Advanced knowledge of adult learning theory and Instructional Design methodology
- The ability to identify and plan the appropriate learning modality to individual learning requests
- Experience with ID/L&D tools such as Storyline, Rise, Power Point and related SCORM or Tin Can compliant production tools
- Demonstrated experience communicating technical jargon and industry-specific processes using clear, simple language and visuals
- Must demonstrate agile mindset to adapt to evolving requirements and make progress despite ambiguity
- Enthusiasm working in a diverse group and contributing to an inclusive culture
- Experience with LMS architecture and deployment within a corporate/organizational learning environment
Instructional Designer II:
- All of the Instructional Designer Level I knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Graduate certificate or industry certification in instructional design, curriculum development, performance improvement, project management, and/or content-specific certifications as appropriate (e.g. CPLP, CPT, PMP, etc.) preferred
- 5 years of experience managing complex ID/L&D projects with excellent written and verbal communication skills preferred
- 5 years of experience conducting quality analysis reviews of instructional materials preferred
- Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
Senior Instructional Designer:
- All of the Instructional Design Level I & II knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Graduate degree in Instructional Design, Adult Learning, or a related field preferred
- Industry certifications in instructional design, curriculum development, performance improvement, project management, and content-specific certifications as appropriate (e.g. CPLP, CPT, PMP, e) preferred
- Offer assistance and teaches Level I and II designers
- Willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction
- Set a positive example for the entire L&D team
- Establish and maintain personally challenging achievement goals and works to continuously improve
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- May be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time
- Ability to operate standard office technology, equipment and tools, which may include many hours of computer and phone usage.
- Occasionally needs to move about inside of office area
- Exposure to potentially hazardous condition, i.e. robbery. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure
