What are the responsibilities and job description for the FOIA Analyst position at Michigan State University?
Provides support to the Director/Freedom of Information Act Officer and Assistant Freedom of Information Act Officer for the University's statutory obligations under the deadlines stipulated by the Michigan Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). This includes FOIA intake, record source determination, contacting affected units, answering questions from affected units regarding processing, assessing responsiveness and comprehensiveness of records available and collected in response to FOIA requests, reviewing records in preparation for release, determining and processing FOIA fees; drafting correspondence on behalf of the administrative staff; maintaining FOIA databases; providing referential information for current cases and synthesizing data for annual unit reports, establishing, monitoring, maintaining, and overseeing files and records on student employees; internal and external fund accounts and general operations; compiling records and submitting bills for departmental products and services; assist in special projects; maintains and orders office supplies; submits bills for departmental products and services; may oversee and/or supervise designated support staff and student labor.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
The job requires: knowledge equivalent to that which normally be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business Administration or related field, and one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a public University setting in which exposure to overall institutional processes, policies and structure along with a detailed grasp of records/data and record keeping methods was involved; experience with word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software and/or desktop publishing, and web page software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to exercise independent, sound judgment; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to work under tight time pressure and pay close attention to detail; strong interpersonal, organizational and collaboration skills; five years or more employed at the University; knowledge of University policies and procedures; proficiency in computer software such as Word, Excel, Adobe, Outlook; advance knowledge of University administrative organization and business procedures; demonstrated ability to work collegially, effectively, and efficiently in a team environment under restrictive deadlines regarding multi-faceted, detailed projects of a sensitive nature.
