Position Description:

This position will report to the Supply Chain Analytics Supervisor and will be responsible for identifying, designing and managing data collection, data analysis, and reporting in order to analyze complex supply chain functions; collaborating with supply chain and information technology professionals to create or interface with digital data systems or models; recommending enhancements to business processes to improve data collection and results.

This position will assist in analyzing spend for the University, averaging $1.6B per year. In that capacity, this role will create procurement reports within Python, IBM Cognos, SQL, SAP Ariba and Tableau to assist in driving data-informed decision making. Additionally, this position will assist in providing advanced analytics related to Logistics, Capital Asset Management, Accounts Payable and Warehouse Services.

In addition to the development of reports, this role will also assist in model development, the development of data pipelines and exploration of TabPy, providing a production environment for models.

As data-stewards for the University for supply chain related data, this position requires a high-level of integrity to assist with data governance for the University and UPL.

Position Duties:

  • Utilize Python to develop predictive models and leverage TabPY as a production environment.

  • Develop complex SQL queries to extract information for the MSU Data Warehouse (EDW).

  • Leverage Python to extract data from the SCLogic database, and joining with EDW data, to develop reporting for Logistics, Capital Assets and Warehouse Services.

  • Model review and validation.

  • Design dashboards with visualization tools, such as Cognos, Tableau and Power BI

  • Leverage API’s to aggregate data from third parties and provide advanced analytics.

  • Perform exploratory data analysis to uncover opportunities for advanced analytics and modeling.

  • Develop SSRS reports to provide self-service reporting for UPL staff.

  • Participate in paired-programming sessions, allowing for skill-growth for the team.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand the root issue and to develop reports/ analytics that will inform decision making.

  • Assist with KPI’s and metrics related to the Balanced Scorecard and UPL Leadership Dashboard

  • Provide estimates for labor requirements and track hours worked on paid projects.

  • Collaborate with UPL IT on the implementation of new systems.

  • Develop IBM Cognos reports, providing self-service reports for the University, related to Ariba, KFS and the PCard program.

  • Maintain an inclusive and collaborative environment, both internal and external to unit

  • Act as a data steward for both UPL and the University, protecting PII, Unit data and potentially student data.

  • Present an attitude geared toward continuous improvement and growth.

  • Translate technical data terms, and modeling techniques, to a business audience.

  • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business, or related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience with database design, reporting, and analysis; process mapping; experience with supply chain operations; experience with database and spreadsheet software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in data analysis, modeling, forecasting, data mining, SQL, Python, data visualization, operations planning, statistical research, and/or business analysis.

  • Direct experience in Python and Jupyter Notebooks. Specifically, experience with scikit-learn, regular expression and data transformation methods.

  • Three-to-five years SQL experience, designing complex queries. Experience running SQL queries through Python is also desired.

  • Experience with IBM Cognos and utilizing data cubes to develop self-service reporting.

  • One to two years’ experience with data visualization tools, such as Tableau and Power BI.
