Job Description: Microchip has an opportunity for a Principal Safety and Health Engineer in the Environmental, Health and Safety department at our Microchip Facilities in Lawrence and Lowell. The candidate will lead and participate in all aspects of risk-based Safety and Industrial Health programs at both Lawrence and Lowell and be expected to share time at both facilities. The candidate will demonstrate expertise in a broad range of Safety regulations with experience in semiconductor, electronics manufacturing or other chemically intensive manufacturing industries. The candidate will be the primary contact for Safety and Industrial Health compliance and manage interactions with regulatory agencies. The candidate will develop, coordinate and perform Safety functions critical to the operations of the plant. The candidate will help lead and participate in the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT). This position is expected to work inside fabrication, industrial, and administrative settings. This position will require administrative work such as technical writing and data analysis, and physical work such as inspection of hazardous areas and spill cleanups. This position will require management of engineers and/or technicians as required. This position will partner with Environmental, Facilities, Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and other organizations to provide support and coordination for implementation of procedures and training consistent with Microchip policies and guiding principles. They will build and maintain effective relationships with plant management and employees, community representatives and regulators. Essential Functions Responsible for driving Safety and Health performance at Lawrence and Lowell. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations and handles all contact with appropriate agencies. Oversee the development, planning, and implementation of the Safety and Health Programs including OSHA policies, procedures, business processes and prevention initiatives. Participate in Corporate Safety/Health initiatives as required. Develop and implement required Safety training across all levels of each facility. Participate in and/or conduct routine audits to ensure the Safety and Health of the facility and employees. Participate in the ERT and MERT, including implementation of safety procedures for the members of each. Use appropriate communications and escalations to inform upper management of all Safety related events including updates until root cause, corrective & preventive actions are identified and implemented. Provide governance to ensure accurate systemic root cause and preventive actions are complete, as well as develop projects and initiatives. Track nonconformance and employee-reported issues to completion. Must be willing to work in the field with the Safety Team on projects including compiling data for permits and reports. Must be willing to lead Safety/Health investigations for OSHA recordable tracking. Lead teams on hazard identification, evaluation and control and appropriate risk assessments and mitigation. Manage safety/IH equipment and supplies and perform IH monitoring if necessary. Requirements/Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Has experience and knowledge in the area of safety and health management including, but not limited to OSHA General Safety and Health provisions, Chemical Safety, Electrical Safety, Ergonomics, Emergency Response, Fire Prevention, Hot Work, and other topics as required. Demonstrated success developing and managing a staff of Safety and Health professionals. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate, influence, manage and drive results. Ability to apply Safety, Health and regulatory knowledge to business decisions including the development of implementation plans for applicable requirements. Strong ability to negotiate and manage effective change relative to Safety aspects associated with people changes, equipment and process changes. Ability to run an effective meeting with focus on problem statement and results. Ability to build, motivate and lead cross-functional teams to meet project objectives, with a focus on measurable results. Effective, organized project manager, including ability to escalate and resolve any issues threatening the success of an initiative. Strong computer literacy skills including mastery knowledge of Microsoft suite (excel, word, power-point) skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to influence and drive message on complex content in front of peers. Required Qualifications 5 years of Safety and Health experience in semiconductor, electronics manufacturing or other chemically intensive manufacturing industry. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Science, Engineering, Occupational Health, Management. Have proficiency with computer software, including Microsoft Office. Must have excellent writing and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications CIH, CSP, PE or other certifications. Experience in Massachusetts rules and regulations for safety compliance. Critical Physical Requirements Able to lift, push, pull 25 lbs; carry 25 lbs; sit 30%; stand 30%; walk 40%; must be able to perform activities that include stooping, reaching, handling, thinking, hearing, talking, seeing, work alone, work around others. Must be able to pass a Physical and Respirator Fit Test.
