POSITION SUMMARY:
To assist and provide support to the lead teacher in charge of the classroom. Duties include reinforcing lessons by tutoring individuals or small groups of students, assisting in creating and carrying out lesson plans, and aiding in maintaining a safe and appropriate classroom environment in order that students may learn effectively.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Must be highly qualified - Passed the ParaPro Assessment or have successfully completed 48 college credit hours
- Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the classroom teacher with lesson preparation by getting materials ready and setting up equipment.
- Conduct learning activities with both large and small groups of children.
- Communicate with and work cohesively with the classroom teacher to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
- Assist with the supervision of children during instructional periods
- Oversee students during non-instructional times including transitions, lunch and recess, arrival and dismissal, and on field trips.
- Ensure the classroom environment is safe and clean.
- Assist with technology-related instructional programs
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher to recognize the issues students are facing and recommend solutions.
- Develop a positive rapport with students
- Additional duties that may be assigned by immediate supervisor or above.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
